If you have kids yelling in the background while you "work", that is no good.

Tech support at my previous job was outsourced to Costa Rica and the most talented rep had a fricking rooster in his backyard right outside his office window.
Talk about annoying, goddamn

my wife and I both work from home, and when we had our dog, we kept the curtains closed to keep her from barking
we take WFH seriously because we appreciate the ability to have it.

I've had people working for me who only handle data. I had actually tried to get them to work from home for nearly a decade to save on expenses for the department. During the Pandamnit, they went home. Low and behold, throughput increased by 15% and overtime decreased by 30%. They were willing to put in extra time to knock things out because they weren't facing a 45 minute drive home after work, and they were never late because of traffic coming in.
In 2022, they were brought back on site because the director was concerned about appearances. It's 2024, they are back working from home and everything is going smoothly. There are some jobs that can only be done on site...there are some jobs where it doesn't matter. If they can work from home and are getting the work done, what do I care where they are doing it?

I actually kind of sympathize for some. I had to call AT&T at work and the rep had her child bawling in the background. She just kept apologizing and I told her I understood and said I would just call back.

I agree and I despise it. I work from home but I ensure my kids are with a caregiver while I’m on the clock because I’m a professional and refuse to have kid noise in the background.
Working from home is not an excuse to stop paying for daycare.

I understand it too, but I still don’t like it. Working from home doesn’t just give one a pass to suddenly be less professional.

I had to attempt a customer service call with spirit airlines a while back…the rep (while not helpful) was nice enough but the rooster in her yard was so fricking loud I couldn’t have a conversation with her. It was so comical I couldn’t even be mad about getting shite on by the airline

I doubt a phone rep is making enough to afford daycare.

You never hear kids when males are working from home because they’re all pajama boys

I've been working from home for 7 years, I doubt my key card would even work.
I'd be pissed if they told us to come back in

Work from home is killing the American man as we know it.

Every single offshore person I talk to sounds like they set up their computer in the middle of a busy intersection. You can hear talking, car horns, all sorts of shite in the background.

Every single company with work from employees needs to have AI crawling the post-call recordings and if a child or dog is heard they need to be disciplined, then fired on the 2nd issue. I have worked from home for 30 years in healthcare sales and my kids were NEVER allowed near the room I was in after getting off of school unless my door was open... if off of school for holidays they had a sitter....WFH is not an excuse to not pay for childcare. When older they would slip me note, but knew better than to open their mouths...
WFH has been bastardized just like everything else since Covid.

I had to call them yesterday and the first guy I got was Pedro speaking in broken English at rapid fire speed. I told him from the jump that he and I both knew there was nothing he could do to help me so that he could go ahead and transfer me to a rep who schedules service calls. I explained that I had done everything that could be done already, I didn't need to do it two more times with him and the person he ultimately transfers me to, and there was no point in wasting mine and his time. He transferred me right away. Now, we are waiting for the tech to show today.

I have an Old English sheepdog was a very loud bark. He was standing right next to me barking at the UPS guy. I apologized to my coworkers. They tell me they didn't hear anything.
