I bought mine when we lived in FL and it did fine. She actually did better in the heat than my dobie. Akitas generally like to be indoors when not out for a walk etc but they do best in cold weather. She was really in her element when we moved to CO. Her first snow storm she took off running through the snow and wouldn't stop. I had to eventually go find her and bring her home in my Jeep.

Pit bull
German Shepard
Malinois

All need a lot of time and energy devoted to them so they are trained properly, but those three breeds are crazy loyal.

Yep. Aka Velcro dogs. Mine listens to me over all others

Except she won't stay off the bed. Bitch waits until I go to sleep and every morning I wake up and she's lying an inch from my face

I almost got an Akita when I bought my dog. I have always loved their look/history/temperament. No complaints, though. My dog has been a great family dog. The best dog I have ever owned.

Jack Russell or Rat Terrier. Once they latch on to someone that are relentless. They will even attack anyone who gets near their master.

Had to put mine down about a year ago, but in her day, she'd do the same thing. I'd make her get on the bed. She'd jump off 5 minutes later. Then every single night/morning I'd wake up with an ear or paw or nose on my face

If ever considering an Akita in the future I would highly recommend. I plan to own another once I'm living in a more suitable location. They have very unique personalities. Unlike any other breed I've experienced.

I have a Coonhound. They are great dogs. Mine is a Black & Tan but obviously has some Bluetick in her genetic makeup. She is very loyal but Coonhounds tend to roam so they need to have a fence if you want them to stay close by. Their nose is one of the best. They make great companions and are very affectionate.

I've had dogs my entire life...mostly hounds, but there are a lot of breeds that will be very loyal if you spend a lot of time with them and give them a lot of love. That is the key.

Good luck with your new dog Broke!

The shelter in BR has a couple of chihuahuas up right now that need good homes. I never thought I'd like them, but my wife has a chihuahua and I love that little dude. He's about as chill as can be also.

I plan on moving out your way one day (Utah or Idaho) and an Anita will definitely be a breed I will look in to. I have always admired them.
