I must be clueless about the promiscuity of kids these days.

Let's just say that I have this case that involves two high school kids, now seniors. They originally met on something called Kik back in middle school, flirting and talking and maybe even sexting (not entirely clear). They started "dating" in 9th grade. Questionable suggestive selfies were flying around. They were doing the nasty before either of them could drive. They broke up a few times, and she got with a few other boys during their breakup periods.
I got 3 kids, man, and they all went to single sex high schools and were pretty much nerds (including my daughter), so this kind of shite is like totally foreign to me. We were wilder when I was in high school than my kids ever were, and we didn't have the aggravating circumstance of social media, but holy shite.... MIDDLE SCHOOL???

Middle Schools with cellphones is a dangerous thing right now.
Most don't really understand the consequences of what the laws are and how much trouble you can get into.
As parents, we are pretty naïve too it as well and think there is no way mine is doing everything right.

Eh. Behavior of kids will always vary regardless of generation.
There were kids in my private HS who were definitely fricking in middle school back in the 90s.
One girl was known as “arse blaster” or something like that because she let her boyfriend frick her up the arse and somehow word got out. She changed schools before HS because she got tired of people making fart noises and other comments whenever she walked by.
There was also another middle school girl who was dating one guy and, when his older brother took her home that night, she fricked him. It was kind of an open secret to the point where people were making “Most likely to get busted for statutory rape” jokes about the brother.
OTOH, you also always have the kids who aren’t interested or are too socially inept to frick someone, though the latter tends to be guys more than girls.
As far as your kids go, they might not be wilder than you were but they may also be very good at hiding it.

My younger cousins know more at their age than I did when I was that age. They were already having sex by age 15, at least. I guess you could blame social media and access to internet, but it’s mostly clueless parents.

I won’t pretend like having access to technology doesn’t make it easier for kids to be exposed to stuff, but I can’t really get on board with “kids these days” generalizations. I was not because I was a shy nerd as a teen, but I know plenty of classmates were having sex from 8th grade on back in the 90s. This isn’t new or necessarily more rampant now. And teenage pregnancy is down, so

I went to public school... But when I was in 5th grade, there was another 5th grade class at my school, that had a pregnant girl in it. She was behind a few grades, but still.. That is pretty young.
