Human nature is such a funny thing. Why do we have such sentimental and nostalgic connections to restaurants, stores, etc? I loved many of these places growing up too. Holy shite, Rax? That's a place I haven't heard of in a while.

I do because one of my Uncles got mesothelioma from the asbestos as a remodeler for the corporation. Old Uncle Tim was always the runt of the litter of Dad's family (10 kids). Just a couple of years after beating the cancer he died overnight from pneumonia, played cards with neighbors Friday night and started feeling poorly walking back home, was dead before sunset Saturday.

Took my now wife here on our first date. I let her win at air hockey and got a goodnight smooch for my effort.

...Camelot Music store in the mid-90's! Loved that place. Only place in town with that big of a selection.

Great cutout bins, too.

Before they switched to basically a phone store this place was damned awesome -

From what I was told, the Radioshack in Fairhope, AL is doing well. Apparently all the retirees who have moved to Fairhope are picking back up on their hobbies and electronics from back in the day, and RS is the place they go to for their parts. Pretty cool.

and there is nothing to replace it locally. anytime you need a connector or resistor, you have to order it and get like 200 of them.

We're lucky that we have a Micro Center, Fry's, and used to even have a Tiger Direct locally

I worked at the one on Greenwell Springs Rd by Monterrey in the late 80's. Could get pretty crazy once we locked the doors at closing time.

"Welcome to Burger Tyme...home of the cajun blaze. May I take your order please?"
