smoking a damn newport at the bar with a few black guys

First Newport I ever had was one I bummed off a brotha in MCT. I was so hungry, I figured frick it. It was great. I bummed so many off that dude that month.

I bought a pack at one point weeks after when we all went separate ways for school. I packed them, lit one, took a drag, and thought, “These suck. I can’t even finish this one.”

Tossed the pack when I realized we didn’t have anyone who’d smoke them.

It was nice having access to cigarette vending machines in every hole in the wall bar back in the day. But I agree, it’s a disgusting habit.

Who would miss cigarette ads?

Not a smoker but I'd rather see those old cigarette ads than the constant lawyer and prescription med ads that are everywhere now.

Very few of the people who smoked Newports are still alive with pleasure.

But I agree.

this thread against the backdrop of threads bitching about everything from vaccines to antidepressants is rhetorical surrealism

Alive with pleasure. Not sure that’s how I felt when I smoked squares.

8am and the OT has already been won for the day. So few will get it.

Upvote enroute.

Nostalgia in general. In many ways "the good old days" are now- but life sure was a lot less complicated in many ways, not so long ago.
I'm just old enough to remember when Baton Rouge was a generally safe place to grow up, for example....

I find it amazing how cool and classy smoking used to be perceived and not it’s seen as the trashiest of trashy activities.

It’s honestly bullshite that we allow alcohol advertising but not cigarettes. If you’re going to let smoking remain legal then private cigarette companies should be able to advertise in a free country.
