Posts like this give me that kick in my pants that I need to stay consistent about my workouts and nutrition. Many thanks
I actually gained weight after Reddit banned r/FatPeopleHate.
I don't understand why the public tolerates such rampant obesity. Other countries think we look really disgusting.

I want to start running.
How would you recommend that I start? What type of running plan?

Motivation to run can be one of the biggest hurdles to clear.
What I find that helps is to sign up and commit to a local 5k race.
Pick one that's about 2-3 months away.
Then find a "10 week ,5k training plan" type schedule online.
They're abundantly found, but generally they all will have you running some type of slow to intermediate pace 3-4 times a week. Also mixing in some cross training of almost anything.
Just get started.
Again, I just find if I have a goal, like the 5k race, it will keep me better focused and not wanting to "blow off" a run, just because I am tired, etc.

Run for 21 straight days, it really does become a habit.

Do a race. You need a reason and a deadline. Also, races are fun.

I used to run a lot. I stopped when I realized that I was addicted to running and was damaging my joints not giving enough recovery time. Had to give it up.
Now I just do calisthenics. I feel and look a lot better.

She said that was a common misconception; that running properly - even 10 miles per day - is not bad for you. She said the problem is people who run with some sort of misalignment.
It's why people make comments like this.
What type of hip replacements do you think you’ll choose?
Your joints are going to love you later in life.
As opposed to overweight lethargic people? They are worse off and in more need of hip and knee replacements.
Humans evolved to become runners or "persistent hunters." We are upright with springy muscles and tendons in the legs. We have furless bodies and excessive sweat glands. It's what we do to track and hunt, running 3-8 miles a day
The problems is when overweight, under trained people on soft cushiony shoes go out and overdo it. But it's better than the immobile walmart scooting clans who will have 10x the health issues plus the joint issues from being overweight.

There was a time not too long ago I was cycling about 200 miles a week. Took up too much of my time.

Congratulations. That's impressive. I started running about 2 months ago at 38 years old. I am up to 6 miles a day 5-6 days a week and I feel great. The first 2 weeks were killer but it gets easier every day.
All the negative comments are loser mentality and jealousy. Don't listen to them.

Impressive man! Got me beat by quite a bit. I run 4 miles a day, 6 days a week. I take off on Sundays. I am at 1,141.71 miles so far this year.

Your knees will need to be replaced by the time you hit fitty. And possibly your hip.

Motivation to run IS the biggest hurdle.
It's crazy how a 5k for me is a "short run" for me now (I always run 5k when I run, even if I'm not feeling it, so it's my "short run") when just 5 months ago my only goal was to be able to run a 5k.
Did I get healthier and more in shape to be able to run the 5k easier? Sure - but it's mostly a mental thing, because now I stop at 5k because I don't want to push myself farther, which is all about motivation.
ETA: For all you Alabama folks, any of you running in Blood Rock this Saturday? It's my first trail run and I am a little nervous to say the least

huh?? Like from the cops or like a dog or something? Cause that is the only reasons I can come up with to run more than 100 yards or so.

I do my best thinking during runs. It's an opportunity to think out problems, or just make plans. The best thing one can add to their regular running gear is a $40 voice activated digital recorder.
If you run familiar routes, you can zone out like you may do when driving to work, You look up and and don't even remember going through some intersections. Runner's high is a real thing.
