I was up to a fifth of vodka a day some days and couldn’t hold a job. I have more DWI’s then I care to admit. 90 day inpatient treatment stay and I’ve now been sober for 22 months. There was no doubt for me and I couldn’t stop on my own to save my life. Be thankful that you e been able to slow down on your own. Alcoholism is progressive so it only gets worse if you’re a true alcoholic. We never get better. Congrats on realizing you have a problem and dosing something about it. I wouldn’t wish what I’ve been through on my worst enemy. Some really really dark times.

Stop drinking crap and enjoy your booze.

That slows me down...a little.

I enjoy drinking and watching TV/movie or working on something. I'm not a big social drinker. I don't go places and put myself at getting plastered in public or at risk. If I do go out, I drink moderately light.

Well it doesn’t sound like much of a drinking problem. Sounds like you are just cheap when you actually want to get drunk, which isn’t often.

Stop drinking jack mixed with coke. You will likely fin a better whiskey that way.

Of course I don't have an actual drinking problem. I'm lamenting my high tolerance for beer. That I enjoy stiff drinks. But my life is moving on and I no longer have time for the booze.

I get heavily buzzed and go to bed. If I find myself drunk, I made a mistake somewhere along the way or I've been roofied.

Do you go from what seems to be sober, to totally smashed...?

I have a friend who is an alcoholic, when he drinks he's fine until he hits the limits per say, then it's like he's totally smashed... No buzz whatsoever, just to a point to where he's totally fricked up...

Ditch the coke. Caffeine can mask a buzz of a certain amount of time.

My wife told me she thought I should stop drinking every night when I get home from work.

I usually have a scotch or two. Or maybe a gin or vodka martini.

So I stopped completely for a 3 work days/nights and by day 4, she was pouring the drink for me

It calms me down after a stressful day at work and I'm a lot more pleasant to be around.

I was always like that. A true Dr Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. When my drinking hit a different level though, I started drinking for total blackout. Every single time I drank. I truly believe that if I set out to have a beer this afternoon, I’d be found passed out drunk somewhere this evening. It sucks, because I do miss having a drink with friends but it just progressed way past that.

I can no longer get suitably drunk off regular beer. It takes a minimum 7-8 Budweiser's on an empty stomach to get a solid buzz. It takes 2 triple jack and cokes to get something happening. Well, I call it a triple. Think red solo cup with ice, fill it to about the last fifth and fill with Coke.

But more importantly, I no longer have the energy to try. I am 32 and tired of drinking. I need to dry out. Flush out my liver and get a solid detox so I can afford to drink fiscally responsibly.

I envy all you 2-3 beer and a solid buzz drinkers. Build a tolerance and get back to me.

I only drink once a week now, maybe. Sad stuff folks. I am growing up.

You sound like I used to be. I started out like you. Towards the end I was up to a fifth and a half or so of Vodka a day before I quit everything and went to clean up in Rayville for four months. Get some help. Stop while you're ahead. The resources are out there.
