What's up with it vanilla face?
I hear you. One my colleagues yelled "frick me sidewards!?". So, naturally. I dropped my pants, started moving her into position; and she gets confused and says a budget meeting is not the time for that. People just don't mean what they say.
Reminds me of the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode when Larry tells the guy to let him know if there is anything he can do and the dude was like sure, you should talk to my sister, but then Larry says he didn’t really mean it, it’s just an expression.

I watch press conferences for coaches in the SEC. The reporters almost to a man/woman say "Hey coach, how are you doing"? And the coach answers a dozen or more times, I'm doing fine. Yeah, I get it.
I've never seen a coach change their mind during the press conference.
I came up with, "You doing alright today?" to be a little more original. I get some responses that confirm how stunned some of them are by it. It gets me in the door every time, and I always make the sell!

I don't mind a good "how you doing," but I do not like it when coworkers use small talk in their IMs. Instead of getting to the point and telling you what they need from you in the same message. They say "Good morning" or "hello" and wait as long as it takes for you respond with a "good morning" back. That is annoying.

From the Demolition Man movie Taco Bell scene.
John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) - “How are you guys doing?”
Man - “Mellow, thank you.”
How spacey is that?
