I'm at the point where I wish that they would pay servers a higher wage and ban tips. It would create higher cost for food, but keep most of you going to McDonald's.

that shite fricked my entire birthday up lol. because my entire life i thought i was a good tipper only to realize that i was a shite bad tipper. Now when i'm trying to impress a girl at a bar or something i'll leave a 60 dollar tip on a 40 dollar bill and no think twice so if you were hot you got a hell of a tip but everyone else like, my entire tipping history has been a lie lol.
Good lord! I bet the strippers love it when you come to their bar! Is "sucker" tattoo'd on your forehead?

so later that night we go out to eat and the check comes. So I sarcastically ask her how much of a tip I should leave. She says so the bill is 100 dollars, so 30 dollars is good, but you're black so subtract a $50 dollar black people fee so technically the waitress owes you 20 dollars.

i have never laughed that hard in my life.

And bad tips only make you viewed as trashy by the service staff... The people who think by tipping poorly they'll "motivate" the server to be better are misguided.

Someone who tips well definitely encourages their server more than poor tippers. Bad tips accomplish nothing at least pay it forward if your eating at a cheap restaurant anyway..

the problem is that no one tells you what a good tip is. I was raised to think 10% was a good tip. shite how you go get mad at me for tipping 20% when i think 10% is a good tip. In my mind i'm a great fricking tipper.

No, it would turn every restaurant into a McDonald's.

My point was that tipping a server/staff poorly accomplishes nothing for those who do it to prove a point.

If I go to Chili's, I accept the service for what it is and will tip 20%, it's not the server's fault that their company hires ppl who are bad at their job. If I go to Ruth's, I'll tip 20% regardless because your tipping for the ambience, bussers, and bartenders as well.

Sounds like you just need to be more selective on the quality of restaurants you go to

Congrats on the worst logic I have ever seen on TD!

This is before you get the bill.

I busted tables one summer in college and the waiter/-waitress are supposed to kick back some of their tips to the bust table guys. Every night at least one server wouldn't kick back bc they'd claim they made no tips: total BS

So you were a #bust boy?

How about, I recognize that the waiter has five tables at a time. Each table will be there for one and half hours. So, what is a decent waiter worth? $20 an hour? $30 an hour? Let's say $40 just for fun. So that waiter is entitled to make $12 per table over that 1.5 hours.

So go ahead and put an $12 tab on my bill. I'm okay with that. Don't see how I'm priced out. I'm priced IN because I'm no longer being gouged by someone's expectations.

Don't eat at a restaurant where your drinks are made for you, your dishes are cleaned for you, the menu is designed for you (you chose it), etc. You chose to eat out. By deciding to eat out and have all these things done for you, you should accept the responsibility of tipping those who are providing a service you'd have to do yourself if you cooked the same meal at home.

Blah Blah Blah,

It is the servers responsibility to provide quality service in exchange for the tip, the rest is the business owners responsibility.

In most settings whipping out your phone and playing on Facebook etc. instead of doing your job will have a bit more consequences than losing out on a tip.

I would terminate someone for that on the spot, they can then go wait tables where apparently some seem to feel it is appropriate.

Why...because he is black and in this thread he has said he spends 10k a year on massages and has a fiancé but still tips $60 on a $40 tab while trying to impress chicks at the bar?
