The fact is, it's true. The venomous nature ppl talk about some professions that they have no knowledge of is ridiculous. Especially service industry jobs.

I could talk a lot of crap about the TSA based on every time I fly, but I'm sure they deal with a-holes all the time and everyone assumes they're dicks, but I won't comment bc I've never done it. Same as ppl who work at the DMV, they deal with douchebags all day.

I'm not talking about servers in general. I'm talking about a small fraction of them who are terrible, self righteous, and rude to their customers and still expect a tip at the end of their bullshite.

I busted tables one summer in college and the waiter/-waitress are supposed to kick back some of their tips to the bust table guys. Every night at least one server wouldn't kick back bc they'd claim they made no tips: total BS

I'm pretty critical of service & don't apologize for it. I worked at an upscale restaurant throughout college, and was trained by the real deal, very old school, proper, & strict. I rarely see the level of good service that was standard when I was in food & beverage.

In a thread about people being self righteous, that is the epitome.

When I worked in a couple restaurants it was automatically taken out, it's my understanding through some friends that's pretty much become the case universally.

Either way,

"Clearly you need this more than me"

I am tipping for service. That is all I care about. I don't think I have ever asked for a recommendation. I know what I want.

so they'll make around minimum wage.

The company has to pay them minimum wage unless they are making more in tips. That whole "servers only make $2/h" is a false narrative.

I get it. The ones that don't are the self righteous former servers because we couldn't possibly understand their struggle.

So you consider serving a potentially minimum wage job before taxes and won't tip bc of that? So they're essentially the same as eating at McDonald's; minimum wage food service job?

Maybe instead of posting stuff like this just order to-go food or eat fast food. If you're willing to not tip bc you feel like on principle they'll at least get minimum wage, then don't put yourself in a position to have to tip, just order food to go.

Hypothetical:

You and a friend go to a nice restaurant. Your friend orders the $27.95 meal, and $1.95 iced tea, which he gets refills from the waiter all meal long. No dessert. You, however, order the $44.95 steak dinner, plus down a few mixed drinks that are an over-priced $11.00 each.

His bill is $29.90 plus tax.

Your bill is $66.95 plus tax.

You both got the exact same service.

His tip at 20% is $6.00. Why should your tip be any more than $6.00? The waiter did nothing more or less for you than he did for your friend.

Well in theory if it was a single bill he would get 20% of the whole table.

If that's how you compute a tip then don't eat out. By your logic if it's a nice restaurant and you order a good bottle of wine you'd tip $20 on your $200 tab bc the other couple tipped $20 on their $100 tab.

$45 prime rib
$11 hamburger

Take same effort and skill to handle order and bring to table

Why does one get 4 x tip money than the other....

And yes most servers feel they are entitled to a tip

Mind quoting the part where I said I don't tip?

Then why are you already paying 4X the price? Clearly you realize one is a better quality than the other

Is the service 4 times better? Did it require 4 times more work?

I responded to your comment about server's making minimum wage. Your original comment was in reference to how much server's actually make. My point was you were saying they at least make minimum wage. So by that logic a waiter is the same as a McDonald's cashier, who makes minimum wage.

This has been discussed on this board ad nauseam. My opinion is that you tip. If you don't, got to McDonald's. We have some cheap arse motherfrickers on here and it goes back a long ways.

My opinion is that I tip when you earn it. You're not entitled to a damn thing.
