I got a ticket in JD parish for speeding 14 over. I live in Houston and don't plan to appear. Does anyone know the best way to deal with this? I called the sheriff, and they told me the only way to deal with it is to pay it and that they don't add points to licenses. Does anyone know if that's correct? I'm really just concerned about keeping this off of my insurance record.

So you were speeding, admit you were speeding, and now asking what to do?

I don’t follow, seems pretty straight forward

Sounds about right. JD Parish is pretty tough as is the town of Woodworth.

Call the DA and see if you can plead to a non-moving violation and pay the full fine. If so, then pay it and take the deal.

Call the DA handling the ticket. Offer to pay the ticket as a non moving violation.

Louisiana doesn't use a point system.

Edit: You said you live in Texas. Texas doesn't have a point system either.

Louisiana does not have a points system. You either pay and deal with the minor insurance increase, or you go to the courthouse the day thats listed on the ticket. When you get called you tell them your pleading not guilty but you will pay today if reduced to a non moving violation. You pay and go on your way!

I'm okay with paying the fine if it won't go on my insurance record like someone in the sheriff's office told me. I'm wondering if anyone else can confirm that this is correct. I've never heard of it not going on your record if you pay/admit guilt.

Might receive letter from DA offering diversion. Pay, no record, slow your arse down next trip.

It is reported to the national driver registry like all states do. That is where the insurance pulls their info.

Some of the small towns don't bother with it though and will let you plead to a non-moving violation - at the same cost of the ticket.

Call the number on the ticket and ask if taking a defensive driving course can get this removed from your record.

Even though we are almost all trying to be helpful, is this an appropriate time to note that Texas drivers on I-10 drive like crap.

Obligatory post less

Call DA. Explain your situation and want to resolve this as quickly as possible without having to travel back to the area. Ask about a reduced charge to a non-moving violation and inquire if Article 894 will be necessary.
