re: I found a 04 Tacoma for $13,900 with only 65,000 miles. Does that sound like a good deal?

Yeah...that's a sub 10k truck then IMHO. It's a great little truck and if the 65k is legit and all the miles then that truck will have lots of years and many miles left in it. I have not seen a market where a 1st Gen Tacoma with those specs is commanding 13K. It's a great truck with a phenomenal reputation, that is just a lot higher than they typically go for.

All of this....if it was a 4x4 and super clean, then yea that price is fine but that's basically bottom of the barrel Tacoma specs, 2wd, standard height, single cab, 4 cylinder, the low milage helps but that feels much more like a $8000 truck than a $14000 truck.

That seems to be the consensus. I may offer but I probably won't go over $9,500.

Thanks for the help, fellas.

Yea, that truck was probably 17k brand new.

I think I paid 23k for double cab v6 2wd back in 2003.

I just saw a 1999 4 runner for sale yesterday. Had a small lift and large mud tires. 13500. Super clean. Man I wanted it, but just have no use for it. Manual 6cyl. Wish I’d have seen it before I bought my sxs.

It's really hard to gauge the value on this truck, just because of how low the mileage is. I'm pretty sure I found the truck you are looking at and it is extremely clean, even the paint appears to be in excellent condition. Manual everything and with zero options. Looking at as close as you can get similar specs it appears the average rate nationally on these right now is 9500-12k. That's higher than the bluebook, but also finding that truck in that shape with that mileage is a rarity. Most are 'clapped out' with sunburnt paint and pushing 300k plus miles at this point.

It's pretty much the car I was looking for. No bells and whistles. Just a quality car to get my son to school & back and something I can use to haul stuff around. The price is a bit high, but one owner with 65k miles is hard to beat.

Maybe $5k. That would likely have the 4cyl. Those aftermkt headlights will scale up in about 12 months. Looks like front quarter or door has been painted.

Check frame for rust issues if you’re serious. It’s a well known issue.

oh shite its not even a pre runner

I was going to say $8k for a pre runner, but for that truck I wouldn't go over $5k

but maybe I'm still living in 2010

That is the one I thought was it.

Like I said purely on specs it really shouldn't be that high, but comparing it to similarly spec'd and mileage vehicles in that condition, there really isn't a set value. It's a bit high, but I don't think you'd be getting screwed. That truck with an updated media unit (Bluetooth, CarPlay, and an accessory backup camera) would be perfect for a young driver. Bonus it's incredibly easy to work on, and you two could do the maintenance together.

The closest I've found to that is a 2008 that had 300,000 miles for $7K

Had two Toyotas back in the 90's, one just like that, then upgraded to an extended cab. Both were standard 2wd and used with both under 50,000 miles. Never left me stranded. That seems a bit high to me.

I have an 02 double cab 4wd that has a little over 250k on it. When I I bought it it had 165k. I paid $8200 for it 5 years ago. I drive it pretty regularly and it still runs great.

Someone has most likely beat you to it.

Never mind, I see that it is a regular cab 2wd. They are asking too much.

Seems a little high, but I would buy that before something newer. Fewer electronic nannies to give you trouble. That's a 300K mile drivetrain.

if it’s a TRD 4x4 or a double cab

In 2014, I sold my 2003 Tacoma TRD 4x4 double cab Limited with 120K miles perfect condition for 10K.

If the one you are considering is a double cab 4x4 with only 65K miles, I would negotiate a little better price.

How does it compare to whats out there for 14K?
