I mean, I feel like this is overstated

didn't that spin off of the SJW movement. They framed everything as feelings so that objective arguments would be left useless. It's another one of the Rules for Radicals excerpts if I recall correctly.

Yes. It’s a way to tell people this is your opinion and not fact.
The French had it coming in WWII vs I feel like the French had it coming in WWII.
Those are two completely different arguments.

It’s used to convey a message of uncertainty, and individual opinion as opposed to fact and certainty. it’s a way to share an idea without triggering close minded people. Similar to adding- many times, often, instead of always.

This started with the Kardashians about 5/6 yrs ago and the big YT influencers ran with it.
The real culprit was 20 yrs ago with the word "literally." Some of the smartest people past and present on tv or radio (Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity) misuse "literally" all the time. Never understood the fascination with this word as "figuratively" sounds just as good rolling off the tongue as a transitional phrase.

The worst trend lately is the “It hits different..” line.

It's a generational thing. Millenials were taught in Middle School/High School to start a phrase with "I feel like" or "I feel that" so that it is less offensive and projects subjectivity.
Seems weak to me, but I'm a crusty Gen Xer.
My millennial wife (no pics) and all her friends start every phrase that way. Have done it since I met them over 10 years ago.

So, this probably became trendy about 6 months ago.
I call this Lumbergh and I draw it out in my head when I read it. I feel like sometimes it's called for.
