I dont have an issue with it either, its his right to free speech. However there might be consequences for doing on a public stage like that.
He should however realize the cyclical hypocrisy of his argument, as the flag he is protesting also represents his right to protest. A right he would not have in many other places around the world.

Respect. What's the point of going to someone's house and NOT trashing it with mud from your boots and pissing on their toilet seat? Respect.
No one is asking him to celebrate. Just respect the tradition. He's paid very well to play a game, yes a physically violent and dangerous one, but a game. He's paid well enough in 1 year (as a QB) to provide for himself, his children and a handful of grandchildren for decades.
Nobody is suggesting he sing. Nobody is suggesting he cherish the flag, the nation or those that sacrificed to put him in the very wealthy situation he finds himself in today. He doesn't have to profess his undying love of the flag or nation. He can even say, if he wants, he's not crazy about how black folks have been treated and that he doesn't care for the song musically.
Stand. Respect. It's very, very simple.
