Some of the donut shops around NOLA have video poker, sell beer, and sell little hamburgers and fries. It's great after going to the bar food.

I definitely partook in all of the above. Gerald’s on Judge Perez was my go to in Chalmette.

Can't believe no one's mentioned the ButterCrisp Donut Shop in Covington! People literally risk their lives pulling in/out they are so crazy busy!!

Lines @ the counter and 5-7 cars waiting in drive through. They recently reopened after closing to remodel, update. The entire Northshore was mutinous and area lumberjacks, Jeff parish yat transplants were in near revolution. Place has been open at least 40+ years. It is cra cra. McDonalds parking lot next door has more Donut customer's cars parked their than for Golden Arches.

People flying in on foot, bike, vehicle from all directions.....all risking life/limb for mainly Donuts, though the food is quite good also.

ButterCrisp in Covington is a frickin INSTITUTION. Stay tuned for Casualties & Death Count from Sugar Addicts jonesing, fighting to get in. I am DEAD SERIOUS!

Though on the NorthShore, where people are somewhat slightly more sane, it is still La & it feels/smacks like an old, typical...."only in New Orleans" type tradition & following.

And I am definitely "guilty" of partaking in the Do-Nots!

If there's one think you can cut immediately to save money it's dining expenses across the board. Everything is cheaper in bulk from the store. Everything is cheaper made. And even a mediocre chef can put together a solid burger. A homemade Big Mac might cost $1.00 even WITH inflation. A couple of potatoes for fries with oil? Maybe $0.80 per person for fries.

Arguments like this always leave out a critical factor: time.

It takes time to shop for ingredients and put together a Big Mac at home. It takes time to cook French fries. And it takes time to clean up after all of that.

Or you could just pay $7 and be done with it. That’s why fast food concepts work.

Asian owned shops usually have the best donuts.

There's a Dunkin spot just up the road from me. The place has steady business all day long.

I rarely eat donuts and if I do it’s on Sunday morning
Dunkin probably makes more in coffee sales than donut sales these days

The donut king cakes are gold

Kolaches are from Czechia but what Czechs call kolaches are not the same as kolaches in texas.

So did Texas and Louisiana both individually start calling kolaches the same thing (both being different from what Czechs call them?)

No. Obviously fricking not. It started in Texas and branched out. Hence, I am surprised it is not only in texas.

I promise that I’m the absolute last dude on here you want to try to get into a history debate with. Especially if it has anything to do with texas.

Hot dog pig in the blanket being passed off as a kolache really pisses me off for some reason, no matter if it was sold in Louisiana or Texas.

Dude, they sell 4oz of flour for $12.

Just before Christmas I stopped at Krispy Kreme and got 2 dozen glazed for work. A little over $29. I had no idea they were that expensive. Of 24 8 got eaten and I think those were only eaten because they felt guilty not eating them.

ButterCrisp is the goat and prints money. There's never not a line.

From the hot glazed to the late night drunken box meals, it was always an institution when I was younger.

My god, this is the most Texas-person thing I've read in a minute.

It's amazing you people can't see how this kind of shite sounds

Donuts are very cheap to make in mass quantities. The profit margins are insane. It's a repetative process which helps keep labor costs down.

I'm sure they are.
Theres a clothing store in West Monroe that's in an old Big Star and then Macs Freshmarket building. It's called Bayoutique. It's off the beaten path. The owners of that building had to something in there or leave it vacant.

A lot of local donut shops have low overhead. Around here a lot are run by Asians and they are pretty busy in the mornings.

I buy donuts to drop off to customers when make morning sales calls.
