Or a couple hundred laps around the football field.

in jhs it was always "meet me at the dome at three o'clock" there was a covered basketball court right off the school property where all in school disputes were handled

I feel like you're leaving out information.

Here's what happened: The kid got fouled hard by the girl; that's just basketball. The kid lashed out and said some things that shouldn't have been said, and got in trouble. Now the dad wants to complain on the internet instead of teaching his kid to man up on the court. Hard fouls happen; you take your hits and hard foul back. That's the game.

Tell him the detention will be over in a few days, but she’ll still be fat.

amen bro. these things were really simple back in the day. our coach brought us to the gym, gave us both a pair of boxing gloves and said "put 'em on and finish this right now". we'd hit each other for awhile and then give up and shake hands. we're friends now coach.

In our high school you could get the coaches to let a couple guys box it out. They put up a ring in the gym, glove up and went to swinging.

My fifth grade son was playing basketball at recess. He stole the ball from a girl and scored. She ran up behind him and hit him in the back of the head. He didn't hit her back as he knows better, but he did call her 'fat'. The fat comment gets him detention, but the fat girl walks away with nothing.

There’s more to the story than you’re telling. Likely the fat girl got in trouble but they can’t tell you.

Arrange a meeting with the admin...be respectful yet assertive in your request as to the "why's" of his/her/their decision. After that, request a meeting with the next level of admin...The words educational admins hate to hear are "law" and "suits" and "my lawyer"...

Let’s break it down: kid steals the ball and gets fouled hard scoring on the other end. Nothing wrong here; just basketball.

But we are supposed to believe that the kid just got up and yelled ‘fat!”. This is where we are missing facts. Something more was said IMO.

Go call a black person the N word and you they have license to do whatever they want to you.

Hurt feelings trump bodily autonomy in clown world.

No sir… you tell those people your child is not doing detention. Do not let him stay after school, do not bring him early, whatever their detention is, do not allow your son to do it. Let them know the person that instigated the issue physically can be punished in an equal or greater way or no one gets punished. You not standing up for your kid will forever remain with him particularly if he knows he wasn’t in the wrong and explained this to you. You have to show him how to stand up to BS and not just agree because someone’s feelings were hurt.

Maybe he could teach you the difference between "principle" and "principal" while you discussed the situation.
