They can get really big. There has to be some subspecies that gets really big, as I've seen em in a drive-through park in Indiana and thought it was too big to be a buffalo..dwarfed our SUV.

The Wood Bison is a subspecies of the American Bison. Both are commonly referred to as the Buffalo. They are heavier than the American Bison with a weight of up to 2,000 pounds and they can be up to 12 feet high. The females are usually smaller, about 2,000 pounds and about 8 feet tall.

Yea the angle makes that one look a little bigger. They are still huge though.

I drive past a pasture in N LA from time to time where the landowner has 2 buffalo. One is pretty big (not as large as pic in OP - assuming male) and the other is smaller (assuming female). Pasture is also home to a mature longhorn steer. Female buffalo always seems to keep her distance from the other two. Male buffalo and steer are always right together - not sure if gay or just good buddies.

That is an American Bison, not a Buffalo.

Yeah man, the injuns had so much to take off a buffalo. They provided a lot. Which is why they were such a respected beast in their culture.

My buddy's dad bought three buffalo from Colorado and had them roaming in a field next to his house on a mountain in Chattanooga. Just three random buffalo.
One day I see my buddy leaving school. "Hey where you going?" I ask.
"Oh the buffalo got out. I gotta go get them back in the fence"
"How do you plan on doing that?"
"I have no clue."

I was riding through rural Williamson County Tennessee a few years ago and passed a farm with bison. There was one laying right beside the barbed wire fence along the side of the road, so I told the person driving to stop so I could get out and look at it. I took a couple of steps toward it, and it stood up. I decided to get back in the car
. It was nowhere near as big as the one in the picture, only a little bigger than a cow.

yes, they are some big dudes...closest thing to what I would consider to be a "beast"....
I juat can't even imagine thousands and thousands of them roaming wild in the US...
Yeah, how awesome was the west before we fenced it up? I could not imagine a heard of thousands stampeding.

I have an uncle that raises Buffalo and he also has a mean arse dog called a Perro de Presa Canario that took out two of his Buffalo. frick that dog. Pitbulls don't have shite on a Presa.
He also breeds what is called a Beefalo. Cow and Buffalo mix and I must say it is some good meat. Doesn't have all the fat and grease of regular beef.
