Of course they will. They'll be pinching the budget for a good long while.

They were always known as being tight and it will be much, much worse going forward.

This thread is singlehandedly making me reconsider buying that GTI.

I mean, they are cool cars, but VW's situation should be a consideration.

Plus, wasn't the one you were looking at used? The dealer is gonna tell you to piss off.

WRX.

ETA: Them, a few guys here have them, but they are stick cars.
Downshift and Golfer have put a shitton of miles on 'em w/o too many issues.

Yes, but a 2016 with 8k miles is hardly used. Besides, the local VW dealership here is a sister store to the dealer I work at, and the GM there used to run my store so I definitely have an in. I'm not terribly worried about service or anything. My main concern is what happens in, say, 5 years if VW peaces out of North America altogether?

My #1 concern is fuel economy and I know the 2011 WRX I'm looking at will get about 22 average vs the GTI's 28. I'm having a really hard time overlooking that.

The WRX is the easy winner out of that bunch.

My VW has been problem free for 80k miles in 2 years. I am nervous driving it now though. If the high pressure fuel pump craps out, VW will undoubtably tell me to pack sand and I'll be footing a $5k repair bill on a car that is essentially worthless at the moment.

please tell me this isn't a dealer in Shreveport/bossier. all I will say is never buy from them terrible service and will not fix the issues that were still under warranty.

Nope. Get this, it's the dealer in Chattanooga, where the friggin car is assembled. A coworkers husband works at the VW plant & pretty much says the car is crap. Now that I think of it, I had heard about some automatic transmission problems w/these cars but had been resolved. But the manual ones had no issues.

I had absolutely no issues at all with my VW a few years back and the dealership was great. Maybe I was just lucky

I've had a minor unpleasant dealer experience. We had a talk about sub-par service at a premium price but nothing came of it. Basically, they did a shitty alignment that I didn't want and fricked my car up. Got some money knocked off the bill (which is ultra easy to do) but that's it. Front end still shakes at 75+ mph.

As far as the actual car is concerned, it seems to be very well made. It's far less shitty feeling than anything else I test drove in its price range.

There's a guy that works at the Southpoint VW service desk that could give two shits about your experience and general perception of their work. I'm glad we're getting rid of the TDI to avoid seeing him

My wife's Tiguan isn't involved in the emissions issues, but I have hated the car since we got it. Loved it in the test obviously, but this thing has never not had a problem. Withing the first 6 months, I had pulled the outside door handles clean off three of the doors just opening them like normal. The service now alert never goes away, except temporarily after we go to the dealership to get it checked and turned off. Back on within a week even though "nothing was wrong." The trunk door stopped working/opening last year (it's a 2011) and we were told it wasn't covered under warranty. Can't remember the cost, but it made me laugh out loud in the guy's face when he told me.

Total piece of shite, and I can't wait to get rid of it.

That is BS. I deal with this every day and assuming the OP didn't pour a gallon of coke down the shifter assembly, the car interior should be able to withstand a spilled soft drink.

You and I agree on most things car-related. I suspect we grew up about the same time and spent our teens hot-rodding '65 - '73 American muscle cars.

If your car is completely disabled by a soda spill in the console between the 2 seats, then you drive a POS. And VWs are supposedly nice cars.

If it as actual "short", no amount of contact cleaner will help. There is a part that has burned out (relay, module, something) and will need replacing as well as the wiring needs cleaning.

Dealership should clearly fix this. Or at least give you a hell of a deal. Maybe give you the part and split the labor.

With all of the self-inflicted problems VW is having, you think that they would make customer service a priority.

Anything electrical on a VW is a nightmare.

My car doesn't have the fuses labeled anywhere, and the owners manual says something to the effect of "we change this shite daily so bring your car to a dealer because we don't know wtf this car ended up with."
