Because you don't want to admit where it was headed regardless. Any outsider could see. You use Katrina as an excuse. Meanwhile your decaying areas spread just like any other city and you top it off with thousands of immigrants pouring in. Sure, Katrina.

What was even at Bon Marche? Because it’s ghetto over there now.

You’re not gonna believe where a ton of the Nolan refugees moved to

A bunch of anchor stores left Cortana in 2006 - then when the mall was sold to another company - some came back. So it had been pretty crappy before Katrina.

2006 eh? Also some of this is exaggerated but no big deal

Baton Rouge as a whole has always been pretty crappy.

No argument there

I am very good at math - especially multiplying

So Bon Marche and the decline of stuff north of Florida Blvd happened before Katrina

Yes, that’s what I’ve been saying. I was in BR pretty much then, it was obvious. But it’s easier to blame people you don’t like or want.

but San Antonio and Phoenix took in large numbers of Katrina evacuees - not as many as Houston - and their crime stats barely changed

Baton Rouge likes to whine that Katrina ruined it too but the crime rate followed the same patterns as it always has. And most of the criminals are not from NOLA or from families from NOLA. I’d say Obama had more impact on the increase in crime than Katrina did.

I never thought of it like that. Ridiculous.

Nobody ever does, but that’s the true cost. The cost of “welfare” and food stamps is a tiny drop in the bucket compared to the true cost. It’s breathtaking when you think of it. Massive population movements and all that goes with that. It’s insane what we put up with. I don’t want to hear any shite from fricking liberals about privilege.

I don’t care about Katrina or the refugees. If you want to pretend sending tens of thousands of folks to other cities had no effect go right ahead.

I just find it interesting that you live in BR and absolutely trash it while white knighting for Nola at every opportunity. Nostalgia is a hell of a thing.

my siblings and I played outside in the 90s when the crime was worse I’m sure there are places in BR where you can play outside, I find it just changes so fast in BR - I remember driving up to the Cortana Mall in the 90s, and then it went totally shite after the new mall, and now gone. Yet lakeside still stands - and it wasn’t great in the 90s

I lived in Baton Rouge for 12 years and kids were playing outside all over the place. Are you paranoid or live in a shitty place?

Yesterday me and my family walked to Trader Joe’s then to the lakes for a picnic

It’s incredible we survived

when?

My kids played outside everyday until about 5 years ago

Which I’ve said numerous times.

I’m not paranoid - I grew up in the city of NOLA, and there were gun shots plenty of nights.

And you’re a longhorn so anything you say is gay and null.

facts aren't racist

Black males between 14-49 are 3% of the population and commit 43% of the homocides

Being around them is like inviting a tiger into your neighborhood and just seeing what happens

It's too dangerous for anyone who can think

you’re more likely to get hit by someone running the red light at Acadian

And nostalgia is a hell of a thing but I also did mention that crime was worse in the 90s in NOLA when my siblings and I used to play outside. And I also did mention that the NOLA of today is not the one I left.

I will not go on a rant (tonight) on why I white knight for NOLA and continue to bash BR.

It is late and I must go do hood rat things with my friends.

Sold my house in July of last year but moved to Spring Texas in December of 2023. Went back almost monthly from December to July.

facts they come to the new area that we developed and make into a thriving community all while saying whitey is racist and hates us. why would you want to move to our town if that's the case. the case is you want to escape the same shite we left the city for and then in less than a generation turn the town into the same shithole you left form.

You know like whats happening to the westside of livingston parish and the northside of ascension.

How far?

5 miles in a straight line.

But that particular neighborhood is roughly 46 minutes away. If we eliminate that it's somewhere around 8.1 miles.
