That's it, blame the people struggling to get by when the government took their jobs away from them.

Many people who didn't need gov assistance received it also. The gov told them to go out and stimulate the economy. What's wrong with doing just that?

There were also people that thought they were never going to have to pay back the 3-4 months of rent and utilities. So instead of saving money or actually paying their bills with the extra $600 a week, they blew it on stupid crap.

How many fell behind while getting twice as much in unemployment with Fed extra $600 weekly payment through close to end of July than they did working before shutdowns on top of the stimulus check? Anyone who was taking in more while not paying rent and not saving some of that extra money have only themselves to blame.
The dental hygienists at my dentists office were pulling $867/week in unemployment. Why would they want to return to work?

LPN/CNA's were pulling twice at much unemployed than they were working.

I have been told by someone in the real estate industry that there is a property management firm that currently has 350 eviction notices ready to file in Orleans Parish. And that's just one company.

get it. It's rough. However in most cases, unemployment compensation may not equal your regular paycheck amount, but it's surely enough to keep you from falling 4+ months behind on your rent. I mean, WTF are you doing with your money?

Food and shelter are your priorities. Everything else is secondary. Problem is a lot of these people didn't make any lifestyle changes. I see Amazon Prime trucks making deliveries more than ever before.

Also, you have to factor in the delusionals who intentionally didn't pay their rent when they indeed had the money....in hopes of some type of government bailout.

Now they want to play the victim.

There are plenty that fit that bill.

Plenty of others were hanging by a thread before this too though.

And you think the shiny electronics sales -- as some like to point to so often -- by and large went to those who actually needed the assistance for survival rather than people who could afford to blow it off?

I must've missed your post about the trillion dollars that has been handed out to businesses or used to prop up the stock market with absolutely no expectation that that money will ever be reimbursed to us, the taxpayers. That post must've dropped to a different page, I guess.

this is such a gross simplification, but par for the course here. Of course the infallible O&G and agricultural sectors that employ many here are frequently propped up by corporate welfare and bailouts but that never seems to bother people like OP.

I know a guy getting $247 a week from Louisiana unemployment for the past three weeks. Oh wait, the state sends half of that to his ex to pay back child support incurred when he previously lost a job. Guy was a hard worker, gave what he had and good father to his kid. So now he is supposed to pay his rent and live on less than $600 a month right now. You try it. Eat or pay rent. Choose.

Taking that free money and letting it ride on the craps is a thrilling ride!

I know someone in a similar situation. Went over to their apartment to help them try to work through the numbers and got halfway through.... I looked at the guy and as kindly as I could informed him that he needed to get any kind of job he could manage because unemployment was only going to cover about 60% of what he needed in a month. I didn't even get to money for eating food or gas.
