I can’t stand the whiny people who take jobs as Waiters.

Im not talking about every waiter, just the whiny ones. I always tip well, but why do they not understand that, outside of high-end restaurants, no one cares about the service they provide, just the cheap food. With more restaurants putting in automated ordering systems, it’s even more frustrating to have to tip someone for just bringing you your food or a random refill. It’s not even service anymore or a job that a 10 year old couldn’t do. It’s going to be a rude awakening for these people about how much they really “deserved” to be paid if the restaurants have to start paying them a “fair wage”. Most waitstaff will be cut if the restaurant isn’t allowed to make consumers foot the bill.

ETA: Sounds very whiny of me but I worked Expo for a while and ended up carrying more food than the waiters every night while they raked in tips for basically doing nothing but complaining to kitchen staff.

Whiny waiters are the best. I specifically request the whiniest waiters when I eat out so I can feel better about myself.

I’ve never had a bad encounter with a waiter. I did have a few friends who were waiters and they were a bunch of little bitches.

I should clarify, I’m not talking about waiters who are whiny on the job with customers. I’m talking about those who view it as the hardest job in the world and think they deserve MW and tips. They can’t even recognize that, in many restaurants, their “skills” are becoming less and less valuable. There are many positions in restaurants that don’t get paid as well through tips and can’t be replaced with an iPad and a drink machine. This is more from a person who has worked in a restaurant, did more equal or more work, and was paid less than waiters. But still I never thought I deserved more than about 8.50 an hour or viewed the job as a way to make a living.

too bad there are not more people like that in jobs like that

and by more I mean all of them

My beef is I would like an occasional "you're welcome" every once in awhile rather than no problem.

When I waited tables I was making 100 to 150 for a 5 hour shift. It was some of the easiest money I ever made. I wasn't working at a high end place, either. Yeah there were folks who didn't tip but I was making at least 20 bucks an hour in spite of them. I don't understand the folks who whine and complain at the end of the night when they aren't qualified to do anything other than bring folks food.

Servers are the weak link in me getting my food efficiently. I'd be fine with a buzzer going off on my table to let me know i need to stand up and get my food.

OK, this is strange. You and my Dad are the only people I’ve ever known to have an issue with “no problem.” I say “no problem” all the time. At this point, I think it’s a highly-accepted casual form of “you’re welcome.”

My intent isn’t to literally imply “rest assured that your request had no negative impact on my life.” But rather to imply “Of course. I was happy to help.”

Nobody should tip

Why should patrons subsidize the owner, by paying their employees wages?

As far as ive read... minimum wage isnt coming to waiters.

Still a combination of low wage and tips.

Am i reading laws wrong? How do they do it in areas with a $15 min wage already?

You can add me to that list. I also hate it when someone says "I got this" when they clearly dont

It isn’t. But they sure love pretending they actually make 3 bucks an hour.

Based on your multi-paragraph rant about how useless waiters are, and how you just care about “cheap food,” I highly doubt it.

Or maybe I do because it’s what you do, but I also have a problem with whiny waiters?

I guess we dont mix with the same people. Most waiters i know are grateful for the work. Hard to top the cash take home, average hourly pay, amd flexible schedule.

Most waiters dont appreciate the level of opportunity outside of restaurants, though (job that could pay 50 hours per week with overtime, promotion, and career growth). But that is a different set of issues within the industry.
