I live on 3 acres off the road, but close to main highway. Last night, around midnight (just getting in bed after WS) I start hearing a tap. Not sure where it's coming from, I get up and start listening. It's very subtle, like someone wasn't trying to make a lot of noise. I go into the living room, and my German Shepard and lab start going crazy outside. I know something is off, so grab my .45 and turn on outside lights.

Dogs start chasing and I'm revved up, so open the door not realizing my alarm is on. Alarm goes off, so I turn it off and walk outside. GS circles me and sits right on my feet in front of me, alert. I've never had any problems, but now at least the POS knows I have an alarm system.

After I calmed down and went back in my room, the tapping stopped. Checked the water heater, pipes, and went into the attic to make sure it wasn't any of that. My dogs never bark at night, much less chase something into the woods, so I believe someone was trying to see if I was asleep before trying to sneak in.

Anyone ever have someone try and break in with 2 cars in the driveway before? Gotta take some balls knowing someone has to be home.

Had someone get my apartment door open once. Luckily I was home studying for finals and not elsewhere. Scared the frick out of me. But as soon as I hit the downstairs lights they jetted.

About 2 weeks after i moved into my house (now 4 years ago), i was asleep and heard something/someone RIGHT outside my window. Heart was pounding and i just got up and slapped the window as hard as i could without breaking it. Must've scared whoever or whatever it was off.

Yes as I use to live in New Orleans East. It's definitely a scary feeling especially knowing no cops will be coming.

Very well could have been. I didn't see anything since I had to go turn my alarm off. GS would have ripped it to pieces before it came into the yard, though. No need for name calling, ya prick.

Was prob a coon or some other animal. Your dogs got excited because you did and obviously because your alarm went off.

You should have brought a shotgun with you 9/10 you probably couldn't hit the perp in the dark with a pistol.

During my CC course, the instructor talked about this a lot. Basically, you have to train yourself not to get tunnel vision when in a life or death situation. I was no where near that point, though. If a window would have broken, it would have probably made it happen.
