I asked Claude if he knew what a New Iberia haircut was.

A "New Iberia haircut" is regional Louisiana slang for what's more formally known as a Caesar cut — short, horizontally cropped bangs/fringe up front with the sides and back cut close or tapered/faded.

The name traces back to Iberia Parish, Louisiana (New Iberia specifically, near Lafayette). The style was popular locally in the early 2000s, and the nickname really took off after a guy working offshore made a goofy YouTube video and song called "New Iberia Haircut" showing off the look. It became a local running joke/cultural touchstone — the Lost Bayou Ramblers even recorded a song riffing on it — before someone eventually pointed out it was just a Caesar cut with a hyper-local nickname attached.

So functionally: ask for a Caesar cut, and if you're in Acadiana, you might also just say "New Iberia haircut" and get a knowing nod.

i think the modern New Iberia haircut is a Ceasar with a strong dose of Edgar, but i'm not an expert on such things.

The video on youtube doesn't show anything that resembles the Caesar haircut. It's more high and tight - ish. How did the New Iberia haircut become the Caesar, or was it always that way and the video isn't accurate?

ETA: I take it back. The ones in the video do kinda resemble the Caesar.

My Dad interviewed for a job in New Iberia when I was a kid in the 80's. My mom prayed hard that he wouldn't get that job, and her prayer was answered. So in typical OT fashion, this could have been me:
