This link shows all the “earthquakes” in Memphis. Who knew they had small ones almost every day.
Memphis shaking.
Memphis shaking.

How is it still standing?

That's not a fricking crack. That's a catastrophic break.

A lot of people forget we have a fault right along the Mississippi River. The New Madrid Seismic Zone is very active.

Yeah one day the New Madrid will wake up and swallow this city whole. The rest of the country will shrug it off and turn over in bed while they feel a little rattling.

Are they going to call in Coastal Bridge ?

No way they inspected that bridge and let that one slide in the past.
They usually start as small cracks. It is possible it was there and never seen. Or started internally.

Madrid fault is going to erupt one day and that is really going to be a clusterfrick of epic proportions.

The TDOT Chief Engineer said the inspector called local 911 to have the bridge immediately shut down as soon as he saw that crack.
My question now is why hasn’t the national news outlets reported this? It’s a bigger story than the pipeline hack.

Not when some states have >50% of their total gas stations out of gas

The severity wasn’t made public until an hour or two ago.
But you are right that it should get more coverage. This also plays into the WH’s infrastructure spending plan that they are pushing. And the media adores the guy in WH now.

The pipeline will be back online very soon. That bridge is going to be down for months if not years.
Posted on 5/12/21 at 2:54 pm to Telecaster
They’re putting some JB cold weld on the bridge now.
It’ll be up in no time.

I hope it's not that long.

Holy frick

That's not a simple crack, that is a catastrophic failure. And at that spot near the center of the bridge, near the center pylon? Fuuuuck

I've only been over the I-40 bridge once in my life
I-55 bridge countless times
I-55 4lyfe

I55 bridge just won’t die. Depending on how they choose to fix this I just might never use the 40 bridge again. I rarely do anyway

Just heard the poor ARDOT employee's 911 call on the radio, dude was clearly freaked out and trying to convey a sense of urgency to the operator and she couldn't tell if the guy was being serious

I can't imagine getting that call and I'd have to do a triple-take myself, like "wait, you're saying we need to shut down THE most important bridge in the country right away? Who is this again? And it needs to be shut down immediately why?!?"
How do you even verify who's making that phonecall and that they're certified to make the call to shut it down? How does that whole process go down?
