Have I missed something ? I-12 eastbound through Baton Rouge into Livingston Parish is nothing but 18 wheelers bumper to bumper barely crawling. What’s up ?

I find I-12 18-wheeler heavy. I guess it’s quicker to Slidell and on to MS bypassing the mess through Metairie and New Orleans.

Nightly construction work going on. It’s been like that since early March.

It is. 10/12 is a major corridor for moving goods across the country. This has become even more true as migration has California, Texas and Florida (in that order) as the most populated states in the country. 10 (and thus 12) is the most direct corridor for high-density traffic linking all three.

It's well past time for Congress to expand the entire stretch by at least one extra lane in both directions (ideally two, so we're not looking at the same scenario in 30-40 years).

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin'
We gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I'm east bound, just watch ol' Bandit run

Keep your foot hard on the pedal
Son, never mind them brakes
Let it all hang out 'cause we've got a run to make
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta
And there's beer in Texarkana
And we'll bring it back no matter what it takes

It’s 22 miles shorter than taking I-10 and you bypass the biggest city in the state.
