I understand the need for being black and white, but in this case, it was a shade of gray. I could have easily backed off - and maybe I should have - however, I felt that if I didn't, this guy would have killed someone, maybe even me.
I take full responsibility for my own actions. No one else was behind the wheel driving my vehicle. I made a conscious decision to carry on the way that I did. This one is on me. I'm thankful for the way that it turned out.
Had I not been able to keep up and point out the vehicle to the Troopers on the highway, there's no telling what could have happened in Baton Rouge, where more vehicles were sure to be on the road.

I'm not bragging. I'm simply stating what I experienced tonight, as I recall it, on my way home.
Learn the difference.

I would love to see this investigated and maybe we can find out what exactly was said. Either the dispatcher is a total moron and has no business being one or will cover is exposed as being full of shite.

No, i think you need to learn the difference.

For those that don't believe me, that's fine, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and can do as you please with it. Enjoy playing devil's advocate.
As for me, I'm tired. Long week, just got home from Dallas. Going to kiss my girls good night and get in bed with my wife and give thanks for what I have in this world.

How do you know the state police protocol for situations like this to say the dispatcher should be disciplined?
Maybe the state police dispatcher knew WTF they were doing and followed established protocol for situations like this. They are professionals after all.

About 10 years ago, I was on 45S driving from Dallas to Houston and was nearly rear-ended by a vehicle driving the same way. Obviously very drunk or in the middle of a severe medical condition. I dialed 911 as I didn't know which department to call and they asked me to keep pace with him for as long as I felt safe and comfortable to do so. I saw him run 2 cars onto the shoulder and his speed would vary from 25-105 with no apparent reason.
I followed him and reported the exits as we passed until a hornets nest of troopers (ok, 3) flew onto the interstate and surrounded him to stop him.
Will probably isn't lying.

Im just glad that my little girls weren't in a car on I-10 tonight as you decided to play hero and get into a 100+ mph car chase with a drunk driver.
But hey, at least you were able to come to the ot lounge and brag about it.

Good job Will Cover.
For those who don't like it, tough. I wonder if any of you would like to come and wipe my retarded sister's arse? She's 50, was in a car accident with a drunk driver when she was 3 weeks old. Someone has been wiping her arse for her since then. Think you'd believe it if someone told you that killing someone may not be the worst thing you do when you drive drunk?

I respect what you did. Most would not have the balls or courage to.

I probably wouldn't have called the cops. I would chase that fricker down myself, post while I was doing it, then video the asswhipping about to commence.
I'd upload it here and make a thread about.
Fucck protocol.

I am not. Your actions are that of a meddler and a busy body, better suited to revealing the living quarters of Jews during a different era. Congrats comrade.
Because people who help catch drunk drivers = Nazi sympathizers, and drunk drivers = Jews. Makes sense to me.
I don't think I could ever have the guts to actually follow the guy. I know I'd at least try to see the license plate and call it in.

Seems like you only endangered more people. Including yourself.
Yeah...because two cars, one with lights off is better than one...with lights off.
Considering it was my old track day car with tires rated way above that and I had over 2000 hours of track time in it... I would say I endangered no one.
Unrelated... thank god they got another drunk douche off the road.

Exactly.....sometimes the police won't be waiting right around the corner to stop the bad guys.....if more people would stand up and not accept things like this rather than be worried about "tattling" or protocol it would make a difference.
Will used good SOBER judgment to do what he felt was SAFE and prudent.
I had a guy driving south on Airline in Prairieville in the Northbound lanes at me a few years ago at about 3 am. Luckily he had his lights on and I saw him far enough out to know something didn't look right but it wasn't until he was about half mile away that I could tell he was on my side. I had slowed to about 40 by then and pulled off in the ditch.
I made a split second decision to follow him (on the proper side ) as I was calling 911 and flashing my lights. I had to go 100+ mph to catch up and he did run two other cars off the road. I was able to tell the dispatcher where he turned off airline and she had a cop coming that way. I saw the cops lights coming and asked if I needed to continue following and they said no the cop will call you back if they need you. Cop called back and said thanks the guy was loaded and they didn't even need a statement from me. I would hope someone else would have tried to warn me if they had been in my situation.

Pfft....100 mph is nothing. 90+ mph is very common on that stretch of highway. Slowpokes driving 70 in the left lane are more dangerous.
