Now need to widen I-10 from Loyola to Vets.
Traffic nightmare there.

I take that exit multiple times a day. I'm just glad an ending is in sight. What's crazy is construction on the airport started in 2015 Ave it took this long to build a road to it

Airport was paid for by itself. The state needed funds for this flyover.

It’s really thought to frick up and go the wrong way in a diverging diamond. They have had them in the Atlanta area for 10 years and it really cuts down on the traffic.

DOTD is in charge of only the interstate--not Loyola Drive and not the airport.
The airport was planned and started construction with little to no coordination with the actual owners of the roadways that would connect to it.
This has very little to do with any ineptness on DOTD's part.

It is. They move pretty smooth and unless you are willing to jump curbs you aren't going to feel out of place.

The "fedgov" does not design and build or even maintain highways, and they did NOT "forget" to put these ramps on the airport.
They DO help fund construction based on established formulas and have some oversight and approval powers over federal numbered highways (interstates and US Highways like US 90, 61 and 51), but ALL state DOTs (including LADOTD) are responsible for initiation of construction, ongoing maintenance, and improvements such as widening and new ramps.

Agreed, and while Loyola to Williams portion is being done pretty much in conjunction with the flyover ramps (thus the noise walls in that segment), here is the problem with Williams to the Vets crossover segment:
In beginning preliminary design, engineers found out that they can't use the existing Vets overpasses and widen them (as was done at Oaklawn, Bonnabel and Transcontinental), because if they are widened, the outside edges will be too low and won't meet clearance standards for Vets Blvd. traffic. This is because all roadways usually have a "crown" with the center of the roadway being higher than the edges so rain water flows off.
This is exacerbated because the bridge structure is not just an overpass over Vets, but also is extended to the west and crosses the Vets canal. it also has a lot of curves for a bridge structure, not a straight shot.
Their solution-- COMPLETELY REMOVE AND REBUILD both bridge structures, east bound and west bound.
The money originally slated for that Vets to Williams segment of the widening wasn't near enough to do this, so LADOTD has just forgotten about it and put it on their backlog.
Why they can't lower Vets by a foot or two or three is beyond me, but that's LADOTD for you.

I wake up an hour ealier than I wanna just to get to work near the Causeway by 630 because 10-East is a cluster frick by 7am.

Compared the Baton Rouge loop, the MSY flyovers are a miracle in government competence.
Because the flyovers took the money for the loop.

That Diverging Diamond is going to cause some issues for people I bet though
Here in Florida they have a fair amount of them. They tend to work well as it keeps traffic moving and eliminates having to wait at a light to turn left to get into an on ramp.
I live in the Orlando area and they just completed one here (I-4 at Exit 58 between Orlando and Tampa). They are already working on a second diverging diamond interchange and have two more diverging diamond interchanges in the planning stages. I also know they have several diverging diamond interchanges down in the Bradenton/Sarasota area.
With the way Louisiana drivers are though I expect it to be a complete clusterf*ck.

Wtf is a diverging diamond going to have to look this up
Posted on 9/26/23 at 7:33 pm to Delacroix22
A form of continous flow intersection.
Lanes basically swap sides, reduce crossover points, minimize traffic sitting still.
Looks more confusing explaining than it is going through.

The Pecue Lane intersection in BR will be a diverging diamond.

When I went through the first diverging diamond interchange here in Orlando it was definitely weird the first time. But honestly it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. If setup correctly you just follow traffic and it's really hard to frick up. Like you mentioned you almost have to intentionally try to go the wrong way.

NOLA drivers accept your challenge…
Yes it’s a good design concept but we are going to screw this up

Baton Rouge has an airport. No need to cater to those ungrateful heathens.
