As opposed to building them in high value, suburban areas? What’s your alternative?

LOL

Lets build the plant in North Houston in that new Bridgeland area.

They are on another level. They're pleasant to deal with IF you don't sign up for anything you can't deliver. There're buildings full of Koreans with laser focus on getting everything done to the letter of the contract.

Hyundai is a big company and they dont take shite off nobody. I'd be amazed if Louisiana doesn't screw this up.

More likely that too many people will show up trying to get greased off the construction contracts and piss the aisians off enough to pick their ball up and go to Texas with it.

If it even gets to that point. I'd assume DEQ would be the first to put their hands out. If it gets approval, thats usually when the bunny huggers and race hustlers start getting antsy. Then whatever local politicians feel the need to wet their beaks. Good ole Louisiana.

Great news. Hyundai/Kia have been killing it with their new cars.

Environmental permits would be my concern, but that should be a lot easier now than the St. James project.

I imagine the state is going to have to build some turn lanes at the very least, perhaps even an interchange/highway expansion right?

Hopefully the state remembers to build adequate highway and/or rail infrastructure leading to the project before that project is finished. I'm gonna take a very deep breath and hold it.

This may be the dumbest comment I’ve seen in a while.

Ascension Parish has the 4th highest median household income in the state.

And they'll kill it with raw material from this Louisiana steel mill.

Is this steel going to be used exclusively for their automotive production or for Hyundai's shipbuilding arm? I'd love to see them invest in south Louisiana for shipbuilding.

If it's for automotive only - I can't think of any investment this large in south Louisiana by any of the legacy automakers. There's a couple of EV battery material processing facilities going up that will serve Stellantis, GM, and Tesla, but those are table stakes compared to the 1500 jobs this steel mill will bring.

True....although Donaldsonville is definitely struggling.

Damn near nobody who works there will live in Donaldsonville.

ETA: Or spend any money there.

Donaldsonville should be in Iberville parish and St Gabriel in Ascension.

HHI isn't going to get involved in American shipbuilding. They are dominant on the world stage excluding America and Europe, due to the jones act and whatever europe's equivalent is. Commercial shipbuilding in America is basically dead right now, and there's no evidence that there would be customers for the kind of operation Hyundai runs. They spit container ships out like economy cars. They could do that here with pushboats and dredges but the only customers would be US companies needing US flagged vessels. HHI and China have the market sewed up already for non-US flagged ships.

Shouldn't be that bad. The area has already been set aside for industrial use. Water will go to the MS River. Air will depend on how hard the enviro groups fight it.

And make sure no one from St James parish gets a job since they want to say "everything industry" is bad. So....stay in your parish and find work for $10/hour. They have a lot of land to build but a small select group hinders the parish's growth with jobs and wages. People are getting cancer just from eating crap in our food sources so working at a plant ain't gonna kill you much faster.
