If you were riding with a designated driver and said driver was ticketed for a moving violation, should you split the fine between the passengers and the driver in question?

Can the passenger control the car in any way? If not, then no.

Weird hypothetical. It's almost as if it's a real situation and you're looking for advice.

I think the driver and passengers should discuss this in advance. But that rarely happens so I say everyone sobers up first and then talk about it like adults at Sonic.

If I called the guy hammered at 2am to come pick me up downtown than yes, probably even pay it all but if he was just the "DD" for the night then still maybe but probably not. Depends on how much I liked him personally

I can see that. If said driver was called out of the blue, maybe it's more acceptable to assume a split.

If they got pulled over for speeding and also had a bag of crack rocks, would you take responsibility for that too?

Stupid question

I wish it were as obvious to the driver I'm dealing with that it's a stupid question. Just posted to find out if my irritation was warranted.

If it was a buddy doing me a favor, I'd toss him a 20 out of good will to help out.

And I can see that. It's one thing to offer. Quite another to assume one should.

If he is a good friend and you like him yes, pay half. If he is a good friend, but poor, just pay it all. If he is asking for half it is because he is poor.

Did he get out of bed to come get you at 3am bc you were about to get your arse whooped by the bouncer? If no then screw that he was the one who chose to speed.
