I lived in uptown a few years ago for 4 months. Train-cation I guess. I enjoyed my time there but it wasn’t for me. The city itself was fine. I like a bit more diversity and ethnic foods. Houston is great for me.

The people they were able to get, half of them couldn't pass a drug test, the ones who passed a drug test were either not experienced or lazy (it was a short term deal so it was hard to find good workers).
If they got rained out, they would come to the main office where I worked to clean equipment, etc.. One day I pulled up and it was all Mexicans. They fired everyone in the field and hired Mexican workers. Those dudes worked their arse off. I had a pass to park my vehicle inside the gates, which maybe had 7 or 8 workers parked in.
One day I was going to lunch and my vehicle was clean as frick.. The guy comes tell me his guys didn't have anything to work on so he told them to clean everyone vehicle that parked in that area.
The next morning I brought them some donuts and for the rest of the time there, they washed it another 2 or 3 times. Each time I brought them donuts which they seemed to be really excited about. I hated when they project ended.
But I had an experience with lazy illegals. It was right after Gustav and the contractor who was doing my roof. According to him other contractors were paying more and when he hired them they just fricked around because they were waiting on jobs that paid more (not sure how true that was. Seems like he would have paid them what everyone else was paying because he took on more work than he was able to do and about a year later ended up losing his business).. So yeah, not all Mexican workers are equal.

One thing people in South Louisiana seem to fall victim to is this notion that the rest of the country consists solely of strip malls and traffic jams. There's no "culture" anywhere else.
That's just not the case, other than in Dallas. I can confirm that Dallas is populated entirely by suburban housewives posting "Wine Thirty" Minion memes. I think they reproduce asexually.

I lived in Houston for 14 years and now in Dallas in year 2. Both are excellent for the job market and not far from home. He needs to remove the stick from his arse and do what’s best financially for his family or gtfo

I realize you started the thread to shite on Louisiana, which I can get behind, but if you want some advice, he should figure out how to work with his hands.and then figure out how to work for himself. I started working with my hands late in the game, but always had an eye on starting my own thing. Best move I could have made. I am worth sooo much more running a construction company than I would be in any other white collar setting. If I were him, I’d renovate your house (if there are bang-for-buck renovations left to be completed, sell it, move into the ugliest $150k house in a neighborhood of 200k+ houses and start renovating. Sell that and either start a renovation business or just keep flipping. Eventually you end up doing commercial work where the easy money is. Forget keeping someone else’s schedule and sucking arse to move up a ladder. Build your own ladder.

He's in his fifties, he began his career quite by accident- and was very successful- the job that was replaced by AI was the only one he could find when he was laid off due to an office closure years ago.
Sometimes life just happens, and you make the best of it.

No employer will say the ship is going down they want maximum effort. If you tell him no were down sizing, he would stop being productive and start searching for employment on the company's dime.
