I have an 18 month old so if 4 years later I were to found out it was actually someone else's kid woudl I don't even know if my brain could process that correctly. Obviously we'd still love him and wouldn't changen antyhing about raising him or antyhing, but my first 2 questions would be where in the frick is my actual baby, and who does this one belong to?

which raises the second question...what the hell happens when it's all straightened out? Do both families jsut throw up their hands and be like "well it's already been 5 years so this is fine". Do they attempt a swap? That'd be weird as hell

There was a mixup with me when leaving the hospital. I forget if my parents took the wrong baby home or they had to get me from another house, but yeah...this does happen.

I don’t think this can be exaggerated as the biggest event of our lifetime. Probably will lead to world war 3...

There were still nurseries when my boys were born in 2017 and 2019

Wild story.

But what is even wilder is when you read the responses in the original thread (not the Best of one). It really exemplifies wtf is wrong with 99% of Redditors with where their minds first go (he lied, he's trying to divoroce her and get out of child support, etc).

Yeah, why would the husband get a paternity test in the first place?

Might have been some genetic traits in the daughter that had him thinking that she wasn’t his.

I'm not saying its impossible because I don't know every hospitals procedures, but I know most hospitals use the tag method and keep the babies in the rooms with the parents for at least the last 10 years

Look man, I agree. But it has happened plenty in the past. Not sure about now.

But never forget, there a many humans with bad intentions in this world. Can't rule out illegal/intentional shite though.

I can assure you it still exists at the biggest hospital in Atlanta and I went from "I would never send my new baby to sleep in there" to "please come get this rascal" in about 4 hours

That said, they scan the arm bands of mom and baby each time if I recall correctly (same for anything else they do, hearing tests, whatever).

Holy shite. Absolute horror story to find out your child got mixed up with someone else’s (at best) or something far worse happened. Someone else lost their child that day as well for sure, question is whether they got a different one. For all future fathers out there: your job is to follow your baby like a fricking hawk in the hospital. Don’t let it out of your sight without the ID band and additional hospital security, plus pictures of the baby and any identifying markers to ensure positive confirmation of getting the right baby back. And as it is the only way I’d let my baby out of my sight is for a medical emergency or baby boy getting circumcised

Nurseries still exist. We sent our kids to the nursery every night for a few hours just so we would get some sleep.

But they scan the wristbands every time when they bring the baby back.

Unless some nurse physically switched bands, it would be really hard to mess this up.
