They used superstorm for Sandy because it wasn’t a tropical system anymore, because of its size, and because it was producing snow in some parts of it. If they used “hurricane” they would have technically been incorrect. Superstorm sounds gay but there were legitimate reasons outside of hype and driving ratings.

There were places on the coast in New Jersey and New York that got absolutely fricked by Sandy.

If they'd put Stephanie out there in a wife beater they'd get better ratings

Even if it was classified as tropical, it would not have been a hurricane. Sandy’s wind speed at landfall was less than hurricane strength.

I’ve seen reports ranging from 70-80 mph. Regardless, it would have been classified as a minimal hurricane at most.

You should be getting 40 to 50 in gusts in a few minutes when that band to your east and NE gets there.

Well it was 80 mph. And whether it's 75 mph or 200 mph it's a hurricane so that second sentence is nonsensical.

So, supposed to fly out this morning to JFK. There has been no flight changes at all. When do they make determinations to cancel flights?

They probably would've cancelled by now if they were going to cancel so you should be good to go.

Pretty much on the coast. It wasn't anything they don't see every winter. They could have some inland flooding.

The worst part of a hurricane is to the northwest of the eye, correct?
