That's what we were saying earlier all timing on this storm. Everything from how fast it moves to it gets swept up to take that NE turn. Probably a better thing for western tracks if it doesn't move as fast as projected because it gives it more time to get shielded.

Do storms in October take this route? The long NW movement? I thought most hurricanes traditionally go north then quickly shift NE rather than moving NW then immediately NE. Seems kinda odd.

This Sept- early October has not been climatologically similar. The far southwestern extent of the Bermuda ridge has been persistent. A NW track can occur. Cold fronts to this point have not made it far enough south for a typical fall pattern to take hold.

This is going to be interesting.

Let's hope the latest 18z HWRF isn't a trend for intensity moving forward

Now that would be bad.

HWRF overdoes intensity generally speaking, but that does hint at some higher strength potential.
ETA: personally still think it'll be sheared some by landfall and likely focus the bad weather to the east side. Hell, the HWRF has him a bit lopsided at 955.

I walked in on the tail end Carl Arredando and it sounded like he said they know where it’s going but not intensity.

Haha I missed that part.

We are booked for that same Thursday-Monday New Orleans to Cozumel cruise...absolutely horrible timing. Any ideas what changes if any Carnival will make?

So basically everyone that lives near the Gulf needs to pay attention of this system.

When are we expecting land fall?
Posted on 10/3/17 at 8:20 pm to rds dc
18z GFS ensemble exuding some confidence in itself. Seems pretty narrow. Of course, all could be operating off bad inputs.

Does it seem it's trending more east?
Posted on 10/3/17 at 8:20 pm to SpanishFortTiger
Looks like this system would be making a land fall late this weekend/ early next week.
