Oh, so like a category 4 hurricane? Got it.

Added to the fact that it’s the state with the second lowest sea level in the country and that shouldn’t matter, right? Only the areas close to the shore are going to be affected?

I’m done hijacking this thread with your dumb arse.

Storm surge is not gonna be that big of a deal. Cat five winds, if it's still that will be devastating. Like war devastating. Not sure what it gonna do but those kind of winds erase everything in their path. I don't give a shite what code your built to. Storm surge will only affect the first mile or so from the beach

we’ve reached the point in the hurricane thread where we argue over semantics and parse words for any sign of weakness

I don't believe I have ever seen winds this high in a point forecast from the NWS. It is a model based on the GFS model I believe that creates these and is sometimes worst case, but I guess it is possible.

130 mph with gusts to 153 mph on south end of Long Key- and right at midnight to boot.

Define “not a big deal”?

It's gonna be a huge deal.

Statistically speaking, very few people get killed by winds in hurricanes

899mb pass had a sonde that measured 24kt winds at the surface, so not quite the exact middle of the storm.

Sorry, I meant more than a mile or two away from the coast. It will be a huge deal within a mile

I wonder if it can break the record set by Hurricane Gilbert? The target is 887 mb.
