You don’t even need a French press. You can take hot water (doesn’t have to be hard boiling hot either just a soft boil or close) and slowly pour it over a drip coffee machine’s coffee and filter. People tend to overthink it.

Yeah, but a good French press coffee is a welcome luxury

Port Tampa Bay was closed because of flooding and power issues, and they distribute a majority of the fuel in central Florida. They were back up and running yesterday so hopefully the shortages will start to dwindle soon.

Power outages down to 1.6 million.

Over 50 percent of total outages have been restored.

That is a good pace for not even 3 full days.

It's Florida, and there will be sinkholes. Much of peninsular Florida is built upon a limestone strata, and widespread two foot rainfall rates have produced this nightmare scenario

Anyone know how hard Indian Rocks / Clearwater area got hit? Helene seemed to mess the area up pretty good before Milton.

Had a family trip planned there early next month and wondering the probability of that happening.

Doesn't anybody remember instant coffee? You don't need anything but hot water and a spoon. I know it's not as good as French press or a brew up coffee maker, but that's all you got it'll do.

I was at Clearwater Beach / Indian Rocks last Sunday before Milton. It was definitely still a mess on some of the side roads, but their cleanup seemed to be a little bit further ahead compared to St. Pete Beach / Pass-a-Grille / Treasure Island. Main roads were largely fine, though the beach front road on Clearwater Beach was still closed.

No clue if Milton caused significant additional damage. Luckily since it went south Clearwater Beach didn't suffer any additional significant storm surge. Whereas Helene was all about the storm surge, Milton was about flooding and wind so I'm sure there was some additional damage.

Maybe try to call your hotel / airbnb in a week or two and get an update. I know as of last week a lot of restaurants / bars on Clearwater Beach were still closed. I tried to go to Frenchy's as I was in the area and they are closed until further notice as most of their restaurants flooded and they are going to have to get new furniture and kitchen equipment.

Most of the hotels will be open and the beach of course will be open. I would just say prepare for a lot of the typical tourist activities and restaurants to still be down. At this point I think the goal will be to have Clearwater Beach and the Tampa Bay Area Beaches ready for March 2025 for Spring Break, but the area is definitely going to be in recovery mode for a couple of months (for the residential areas several years but most of the tourists areas didn't suffer a lot of structural damage, just the flooding and storm surge). It'll be hard as I'm sure a lot of the snowbirds are going to take this year off, so a lot of areas on the Gulf Coast won't have a snowbird season this year (and the snowbirds bring in a lot of money during what would otherwise be a slower period of the year).

I would say if you could push the trip back in November or even to late November / early December it might be a better experience and more things should be reopened at that point.

Thank you - I really appreciate the update and detail.

It is a time share my MIL has and their phones are down (bad sign) so I was just trying to get any perspective. Internet seems to indicate Helene really messed up the area with the surge.

Looks like the all around my area here. Just piles and piles of trees down and stacked at the roads. Did a little shopping yesterday and we got it pretty good. There are some very nice trailer parks, yea I know, down here. They have HOA's and are very well kept up. Most of them got totally destroyed. I just could not imagine riding out that storm, or any bad one, in a trailer.

Crazy damage to them

I wonder how the trailer park on Palma Sola Blvd did? Palma Sola Shores I think is the name

It's between the yacht basin and 22nd Ave.

It has always been a tidy 55+ park on the bay.

Not sure. Have not been that far west on Cortez yet. The ones on HWY 70 our near 14th street like Floradana and the other ones there got smashed. The road that we saw the most damage was Tuttle drive going south from University. That place downt there got rocked

I wouldn't base it just off that. Internet and Cell Service is probably still spotty along the coast.

If it's a time share it just depends on where it is exactly. Some timeshares and probably okay. Other timeshares probably got messed up pretty good and are probably having to be gutted.

I would check with your timeshare individually. Like I said, if you could delay even until late November (right before or right after Thanksgiving) or early December I imagine significantly more things will be open by then.

Yes at that point the water will be too cold to enter, but in early November the water is already starting to be too cold to enter anyway. But if you have any other questions let me know and I'll try to answer them.

NWS Melborne have confirmed six tornadoes in their area so far. The Vero Beach tornado was the strongest at EF3.

I live in Clearwater and my parents live on the beach in Indian rock Beach.

Clearwater, off the water is relatively fine now that power is back on

IRB is still a mess. Most of the restaurants you know there will be closed For a while. Significant amount of flooding on all the houses and first floor of the condo units. My parents got lucky as their first floor is only storage and parking and their car was over at our place when they evacuated.

Flooding from the first storm did most of the damage though there is some wind damage from Milton around IRB

My suggestion is like above call whoever runs your Airbnb and see what the situation is with the building. If your goal is a vacation where you’re hanging out at restaurants and bumming around IRB I would think twice, if all you’re looking to do is hang out on the beach and the Airbnb is in good shape. You should be fine.

Happy to answer any more questions

I've been here in Pinellas County since '91. Easily the most destructive hurricane to hit us. & it could have been worse. Coupled with Helene it's a mess, but everyone seems to be pulling together to rebound and move on.
