We’re good on the Dolly Ridge side of Vestavia.

Update: I did not keep my shed.

Haven’t even gotten to make the rounds yet because roads are blocked with trees and already confirmed:
-roof damage at one spot
-lost a brand new fence
-aluminum signs were torn from posts at another
-115mph wind gusts a few miles from the one I haven’t gotten to
-85mph estimated where I was at to the point that the entire building was flexing and shaking like an earthquake
-no power at any locations consistently
-major wind resistant trees (live oaks) down per neighbors
-powerlines down all over the place
-neighbor with a well built SFL storm code home had windows pop with water pushing in during the rain portion of the storm
-walking briefly last night there were shingles and debris lying around up and down the road
-all the above ground power lines were sparking with many sagging or clearly damaged

I live in Watersound Origins on the east end. I haven’t ventured out too far but our neighborhood seems fine. My buddies in Grayton seem to have gotten it worse. One had a couple outdoor fans ripped off his porch ceiling.

My understanding is the worst corridor on 30A was between Dune Allen/SRB to Seaside.

115 mph confirmed gust at South Walton High School which near the Choctowatchee Bay by the Clyde Wells Bridge (331).

My place is in Montreat. Woke up to the transformers whining about 5am. Old lines running through the woods. Happens every time we get sustained rains. Feels like I'm in one of those pockets sputhern company gives zero fricks about.

It seems to always be Generacs. From what I hear, anything post-2018 is far less reliable than some of her older machines.

Way more of them than every other brand combined.

People pay a lot of money for standby generators with no concept of how they work, what the infrastructure limitations might be, etc. Most would be better served with a portable and a manual transfer setup. 1/10 the cost and possibly more reliable.

Anyone know anymore on conditions directly on
on Choctawatchee Bay? Brother has a place there and he’s overseas at the moment.

I’ve done this exact evaluation. Moved to a remote area this Spring that has never been a priority for restoration, so I know we need one.

Kicked the can down the road this year and lucked out, thinking about one of the Trifuel “portables” in the 12-15Kw range. No natural gas, and will likely need a bigger propane tank.

Saw trucks full of transformers and a bunch of bucket trucks on I-12 already headed that way on Thursday and Friday, hope everyone gets restored quickly.

Prayers to all those who rode it out last night. I know that could not have been fun. Hoping you all get power restored soon.

Where on the bay? Big difference between Destin and backside of Santa Rosa Beach.

Live on the north side of the bay in Niceville. Power out for a good part of town and cell service too. Lots of trees down from what I saw on my drive this morning. Luckily surge was very small and no water damage I could see, just wind and trees.

The other issue with house generators is natural gas supply. The utility distribution networks weren't built with whole house gas generators in mind. In many situations there is not gas flowing to adequately supply all of the generators running in a given neighborhood, as the utility never modeled the network to meet that spike.

Did you get an error code? I’ve heard of this happening before during storms due to lack of a good natural gas flow.

My house is behind McGuires in Destin by Shoreline church. Apparently a tree went down on Azalea rd that killed power to the neighborhood.

Early reports from neighbors say it’s just trees and leaves all over but other than that pretty good.

Went to central Florida to avoid riding this out with an 18month old and no generator.

That's why I buried a tank in the yard.
