Monday morning update on HURRICANE IRMA: It increasingly looks like Irma will be a direct threat to South Florida. I am recommending that everybody get their supplies now... TODAY... before the frenzy starts in a few days.

Idk squat but typically you would think even if they went that direction that the storm would fall apart over land ... but we thought that with Harvey as well. F'er hung around forever.

know it is still 6 days out, but this kind of agreement between the GFS and Euro is concerning:
I think if it's that far south at that point and that high ridge sits there, it tracks into the gulf before the ridge steers it north. Makes landfall around gulf shores/destin

Another question I have. This front that comes in the next few days.... Is it possible it sags down then grabs Irma and backs up (as most fronts do ) and pulls Irma more towards the central Gulf Coast

the last hurricane I evacuated from I barely booked a hotel in time 50 miles inland. Most hotels, unless it is a four but most likely- five star do not have generators. Is there any chain hotels that do that I am not aware of? Finding pet friendly ones is hard enough.

IMO it should be required for hotels to have generators.

My comment from back in page 3
Sticking with my prediction at this point

But if she goes toward Cuba and south of Florida and misses Tuesday's low trough the Bermuda Atlantic high pressure wall and high pressure wall over Mexico could then channel her to the center of the gulf

Some NWS offices will begin special balloon launches every 6 hours to sample the atmosphere and try to nail down what will happen with this front.

I agree but was shocked the last evac. Sometimes with pets you can't be picky on which hotel you go with.

Interesting...Miami, Fla put in Hurricane safe hotels.
quote:
Hurricane Safe and SoundProof
Hurricane season (June 1st to November 30th) is always a busy travel time for South Florida, whether visitors are coming into town for business or pleasure. Our Miami Kendall hotel would like you to know that there’s no concern for safety when you choose to work, play or simply relax and get away from it all on our grounds. Our hotel in Miami is structurally sound and designed to withstand high winds and inclement weather, while protecting both our staff and guests. We are also the closest hotel to the National Hurricane Center, and some emergency services for the Florida Keys even operate from our hotel during outer-island evacuations.
Hurricane Resistant Hotel
Our building offers reinforced exterior and interior concrete walls, floors and roof, even between rooms. The windows are designed to withstand 250 mph winds. We also have full power backup through a natural gas generator, which can provide air conditioning and electricity to the entire, hurricane resistant Miami hotel. Our system cannot run out of fuel, since the gas lines run underground and are not supplied by a tank that would otherwise require refilling. At Comfort Suites Miami, you won’t be kept in the dark—even during strong storms and other adverse weather conditions, which makes our hotel one of the best hotels in Miami.
Sound Resistant Hotel
A dual benefit to weather-resistant construction and shatter-proof windows is that our Miami hotel is also sound resistant. You can unwind and enjoy ultimate privacy in your suite as you sleep, dine, surf online with Comfort Suites Miami’s complimentary Internet access or just spend time with your family, undisturbed. This also means that your Miami vacation or business trip will not be disturbed by the sounds that might accompany loud windstorms, thunderstorms and downpours.

The hotel in Texas that (I forget which town) was a new hotel built I think for 150 mph winds and had a side ripped off during Harvey ... I'm personally not confident!!
