Not in all cases. There was an old fellow who ran a lodge on the slopes oh Mt St Helens. He refused to evacuate, the mountain blew, and he was never seen again. People said he was crazy, but his alternative was living out the rest if his life in an old folks home, away from the life he loved that didnt exist any more. He made a rational choice. Maybe some of the people who refuse to leave in FL feel the same way.

Just wanna hop on the "glad you got out" train. Do what you can to stay positive and keep your mind off of things.

Well yeah, obviously - but it is still a terrible, life changing situation.

I got my family out and that is most important, but having to start over from scratch is going to be a long road.

I'm not even sure why you assumed I was referring to material things that insurance could replace.

I care less about my big screen tv than I do my wife's wedding dress. I can assure you that she didn't anticipate losing it this way.

And if this was an a-hole reply, I apologize. I'm just a little on edge due to the circumstances.

I didn't know for 2 days if my Dad survived Katrina. I know the feeling.

They said on their twitter feed their building is rated to withstand a Cat 5

For their sake, I hope that's correct.

Lord knows I wouldn't be putting my life on a man-made structure if I could still get out. Category 5 rating or not.

There was a live feed camera a few day ago on one of the Caribbean islands. It was pointed towards a blue shed. The winds fricked up everything and the blue shed started to deteriorate. The shed was tow strapped to the railing on the porch and everyone was cheering that the blue shed would withstand the storm. It did.

Have a few drinks and try to relax. You'll have enough to deal with when it's time to assess the damage. You've done everything you could do, and what happens next is out of your hands

I wonder if she is going to cycle out that dry air in her NW Quadrant.

Does it look like it's still at Cat5? I'm looking at a couple of radar images that appear to show it getting beat up on the Southeast quadrant.

ETA: Keep in mind I have no idea what the frick I'm talking about, just spitballing and trying to figure it out.

Blue shed was in Harvey, TX. Storm chaser hunkered down in a cement car wash and had live feed through worst of storm. When a seasonsed vet starts begging for the eyewall to pass you know it's intense. Surrounding buildings were collapsing but the little blue shed that was in his camera view nearly the entire time stayed steady and true through it all. After it was over, pics showed surrounding structures severely damaged and little blue shed looked untouched.
