I have a friend who has a vacation home in Ft Myers. They couldn't make it down in time to secure everything. Took the attitude that everything there was insured and wasn't worth fighting the flow of people to get down there
I mean, what's the point of securing things at some point? It would only be worthwhile if you drove a uhaul down there and emptied the place. Still wouldn't be worth it to me but I have Amazon deliver my groceries sometimes so...

So, when so we star discussing tide times?
Ummmm I am not familiar with impacts of high tide in SFL.
This was the major concern with a GA/SC landfall because they have abnormally high high tide in Charleston.
I would guess if she came in at high tide, the minimum rise would be half a foot maybe?

Alabama doesn't play until 2:30 this afternoon (Fresno State)
Look, I've already prayed for the people of Bama to be kept safe from this storm. You can't expect me to watch their football game, too. I mean, I only have so much grace to give...

I evacuated, but it the current projections hold true, I won't have anything to go back to.
But you will have your life. That is above all.
Insurance can replace things eventually.

They have a really expensive boat on a lift in the slip under the house. They essentially are writing it off. They said usually they would trailer it further inland and board up, but they said they weren't even sure if the house would be there after, so the hell with all of it

Ouch. Still, did you see the traffic leaving FL? Not worth the hassle and danger of getting caught. Insurance will cover it and it can be replaced.

Yeah plus they live in Indiana, so it's not like it would have been a piece of cake getting there

NWS Key West employees are riding out the storm (Follow this twitter feed)
Forecaster Chris Rothwell watching radar closely this morning, as the first band of #Irma moves into the Keys with 40-50mph gusts. #FLkeys

Unbelievably stupid
I'm assuming they have a serious shelter?

I'm betting they are well above sea level and in some fortified building

Not in all cases. There was an old fellow who ran a lodge on the slopes oh Mt St Helens. He refused to evacuate, the mountain blew, and he was never seen again. People said he was crazy, but his alternative was living out the rest if his life in an old folks home, away from the life he loved that didnt exist any more. He made a rational choice. Maybe some of the people who refuse to leave in FL feel the same way.

Their augmented reality segments are the absolute best on television. Some of that stuff blows my mind

Can someone rewind and tell me what the blue shed is all about? I missed the entire thing

I hope so because they could be in for a long few days

They said on their twitter feed their building is rated to withstand a Cat 5

Well yeah, obviously - but it is still a terrible, life changing situation.
I got my family out and that is most important, but having to start over from scratch is going to be a long road.
I'm not even sure why you assumed I was referring to material things that insurance could replace.
I care less about my big screen tv than I do my wife's wedding dress. I can assure you that she didn't anticipate losing it this way.
And if this was an a-hole reply, I apologize. I'm just a little on edge due to the circumstances.
