Which coast gets the worst damage do you think?

It all depends on the track of the eye. The NE quadrant of the eyewall generally gets tagged the hardest from a pure wind standpoint but by no means is the path of destruction limited to that. If your neighborhood gets wrecked, it doesn't matter what side of the wall you are on. It looks like there will be plenty of nasty to go around unfortunately.

If I understand you correctly, about 12 yards. Does that sound right

My brother, his wife, and my nephew are riding it out in port Charlotte. What can they expect? He's well prepped, but I'm trying to tell them to get out.

I have a stupid trig question -
If a tree is 18yrds from your house and the angle to the top (diagonal) is 22yrds, how tall is the tree?

I am an accountant and too exhausted to think about this.

About 38 feet I think.

Assuming your numbers are right, the tree is 12.7 yards tall.

Thanks, we used whatever the device is for long range shooting, so should be accurate. I am really grateful for your work here, slackster.

NE quadrant of this thing over SW Fla is going to be rough

There is time to leave, even people in that area making it though the eyewall..the days after will be hell. Time for those to grab some things and head now

Shouldn't be able to fall and hit whatever is 18 yards from it along the ground, assuming it falls straight down.

Do they remember Charlie?

The final strength and exact path will determine just how bad it will be but Irma will bring more surge than Charlie if it's a close strike to PC and comparable or worse winds depending on just how strong.

Liz, being that you are an accountant, you are obviously educated and have some means. May I ask why leaving was not an option for you?

How much gas do you have?

With it being further south is that good or bad for west Florida? Or better way to ask, what impacts does that have on the next course.

If the tree is 18 yards from the house....and the diagonal from the top of the tree to the bottom of the house is 22 yards (which is how I read this), then the tree would be 12.6 yards (37.8 feet) tall.
