No trees, I have a pond behind me then I-75. I-75 works as a surge barrier, so they say. No shingles, metal roof with hurricane strapping.
ETA: no trees because we cut the stupid pines down yesterday.

You need to get the frick out. There's a very good chance this storm shifts west and makes landfall in Naples

Do you have a 2nd floor?
If not, put an ax or running chainsaw in the attic.
You might thank me later.

Looks like it might be too late to get out. Traffic maps look terrible.

potentially water for possibly weeks
Let's not get carried away here. The water will be dropped off by the truckload right after.
But it will be really shitty hot and gross waiting for it.
If I was going to "stay", I would have gotten all my gas and stuff ready to roll out to a place with power after it passed.

My buddy in MS just texted me that a coworker of his has a Disney vacation this week and is leaving tomorrow. As in, they are heading TOWARDS the Cat 4/5 storm for...Disney
When they get there, they should expect it to look like Walley World looked when the Griswalds got there, just with a little more rain and wind.

AF304 found ~145 mph winds at the surface in the NE eyewall
~170 mph winds at ~940 feet off the ground

Was the first thought that crossed my mind. Even the adventures on the way there.

With no surge and a well built house, you probably survive the worst of the winds. Note the "probably".
It's the weeks without power, water, and limited grocery access that is going to really suck.

Bobby Jindal was a human dynamo when it came to hurricanes.
This. Especially after Blanco made a clusterfrick out of Katrina. Bobby had his shite together.

A few days ago, models showed the hurricane dropping to insanely low pressures, like 880 mb, just prior to landfall.
Are these thoughts off the table now?

Already discussed with the SO, chainsaw check. Truck ready if we have to run because of roof, or tree crashing in to house, etc. So many people are still here. FL is not a state you can just "leave" at this time.
ETA: we don't have trees, but I am glaring at the neighbors lone pine.

On the corner of Santa Barbara and Radio road are two gas stations that both have gas.
I am assuming you are close to there.

Just make sure you don't get trapped in the attic if the surge forces ya'll up.

What's the prognosis for Tampa or Orlando areas? Cat 3 or 4 going through still?
Posted on 9/8/17 at 12:29 pm to loogaroo
I got curious. Hurricane Gordon in 1994 had an interesting track. Bored, sorry.
