Can you imagine how hard it is going to be to get construction materials out there?
The PM of Antigua said some South American countries are sending C130s full of construction materials to start rebuilding within the next couple days.

Gov Scott was also saying given the path going north it's going to be tough to even get shite down to south florida because the states like georgia and sc who would normally supply assistance are going to have to hunker down until the storm passes. My buddies at Florida Power and Light are going to be busy as frick

where do they put all of the boats and cars and just everything that was blown apart
In Slidell, after Katrina, all the boats that were dredged up out of the Marina were sold for 'salvage'. A lot of the hardware on them and maybe even engines do have value as used materials. The "roof" that I watched them lift out had a house attached, and they just deposited it in a dump truck

I'm sending a bulk shipment of C and D batteries to father-in-law in St. Thomas. Whole island is basically out of those type of batteries and a whole bunch of people are in need of them in the community. Said that they are working to get the airport cleared and ready within 48 hours.
FIL said he thought he was going to die during the 30 minutes or so when the eye was close.
Lots of people flooded in the low lying areas. Like a bomb went off with all the wind.
He's part of the Morovian Church and some of his church congregation is still MIA.

A dropsonde is kinda like a weather balloon except in the opposite direction.
The suffix -sonde is for any electric instument that is dropped or lowered. (Sonde is common in working on petroleum wells. It transmits information as it moves.

Glad he's safe and hope that his church members are found.

Can you imagine how hard it is going to be to get construction materials out there? Given how remote these locations are
First they have to clear the runway at the airport and the ports. That doesn't happen overnight. Then it will take days or weeks to get essential supplies in there. That's assuming Jose doesn't make the seas messy. Georgia and Alabama Power also can't just drive their trucks in to fix the electricity.
Then you have the rebuilding process, which could take months-years. No tourists will be going to a few these islands for quite some time. So there goes most of the economy.
There was talk earlier that the people in the Caribbean are used to this so they can rebuild quick. I call bullshite on that in this case. This will set back a lot of islands years if not a decade.

I bet the majority of them are repaired and put back into use. The ones that are total losses sold as bulk scrap and shipped out?

Wtf happened to this thread since 4pm????
It's been an informative thread on a dangerous storm for the most part, resident trolls invaded after a melt.

Just got word that Coral Bay on St John is destroyed. Not surprising. It was the side that was most exposed.
