There was really no reason any school anywhere on the Gulf Coast should have been closed today. None.
, what? There was an actual, defined tropical storm and potential hurricane that was making landfall in southern MS/AL. Little less shear and a low end category 2 was on the table. Closing schools in LA was dumb, no doubt, but people in the path had a plausible reason to close them.
Meteorologists are far better at predicting tracks than they are at predicting intensification.

Spin ups in these systems are usually low end tornados, but tornados nonetheless.
