Models mostly show it getting shredded into the caribbean but this current run on GFS looks like it has it actually intensifying in the caribbean instead. Could just be an outlier or the start of a trend.
we've shite on the GFS a lot in this thread... but I'm fairly certain it was the 1st to pick up a potential stall along the coast for Flo... so maybe we shouldn't just write it off

50 years ago the GOAT Nash Roberts was still with us. Dont know what people did prior to that. Nash started broadcasting in 1951.

It has Isaac intensifying and turning north near cuba.

We’re holding down in Wagener Terrace for the time being. This side of the peninsula is fairly lively right now, all things considered. Possibly heading to Jacksonville tomorrow.
Think I'm riding it out on Johns Island, as our elevation should help us. For my house the elevation is 14m / 46feet.

I'm not riding it out on the 30-whatever-th floor... I tell you that
I'm getting down to at least the 4th, 5th, or 6th
I'm not saying that I'd want to either... but it's not like those buildings are going to come down. I wouldn't be hanging out on the balcony, that's for damn sure.

those beach cams just remind you of how people died back before weather forecasting was a thing. Beautiful day out there today. In 2 days all hell will probably break loose. No one would have had a clue 50 to 100 years ago of what was coming.
I think of this every time there's a major storm. Some old timer standing on his porch saying, "looks like rain"

Lol at these morons Kaylee just interviewed
“Ohh, we’re not leaving because we aren’t scared.”
“If we leave we won’t be able to come back for a month or longer.”
Uh, yea exactly. That’s a month you’ll stay there (if you survive) WITHOUT electricity, running water, plumbing, etc.
But hey, at least you weren’t scared! It’s about survival not fear or lack thereof.

yeah... first responders will always say once winds hit tropical storm force... they're done... they hunker down until the winds die back down under TS force
As they should. I remember for Rita, our poor neighbors had JUST moved in. We walked over to tell her about the mandatory evac and she said "oh my husband said it'll be fine .. he went to Port Arranas to see about the boat". I was like "lady, you will have no water (had a water well), they're NOT coming if you need" etc. She said "well I guess I could go to my sons about 20 miles north.
We really had to talk her into leaving.

Looks like GFS has Isaac gaining strength in caribbean, turns northwest and drifts into the gulf. Kinda interesting it's doing that. Others showed a lot of shear then a ridge that parks over the top preventing it turning north. I'll be curious to see what GFS does with it when this run is over.

if they're from the midwest... just tell to be prepared to be inside the worst of a tornado for like 8-10 hours... if not more

Either TWC or CNN was saying last night said there's double the number of people now than Hugo in 89.
A lot of people haven't been through this.

I've always wondered about that too. Nice day and then suddenly there's a hurricane. Seems impossible to prepare for and scary to think about considering the way they change direction and intensify rapidly. Especially scary to think that the eye could fool people into thinking the storm was over. Outside of some boat captain saying he saw a thunderstorm, how would anyone know Florence was heading that way 100+ years ago?
The Galveston Hurricane is probably an example of what we're talking about. There was some warning from Cuba about a storm but nobody knew which direction the storm was heading.
