Hurricane Hunters have found a steady pressure the last 2 passes through the eye
and the storm is still hasn't made the turn due west yet

It's just a plot of the recon plane located low level center of circulation or center of the eye.
The 980 is the lowest sea level atmospheric pressure determined by extrapolation of a measured pressure at about 1000 feet altitude where the plane flies.
The colored lines are the measured sustained winds at the 1000 foot level which are reduced by the NHC mets to 80 to 90 percent to estimate the surface winds.

Gotcha. That helped. I can't imagine flying through a freaking hurricane.

That was on my bucket list when I was younger, but I don't think my body could take it these days.

It's not suppose to turn west until late tomorrow, if it started moving due west now I would be way more concerned.

HWRF may be right in how strong this thing gets

HWRF was right on Harvey
Let’s not hope he’s right this year

Levi twice mentioned a weak high over Florida, once talking about a chance of the high causing some shear and the other as the reason the models have the storm possibly moving a bit southwest as it gets closer to Florida. This was a change from earlier today when the models had the storm in N central Florida coast

Has a hurricane plane ever crashed whilst flying through a hurricane? If not, why?? Not that I want that but how does a plane not crash flying through a hurricane but other planes crash all the time in good weather? Maybe boeing can make a max plane fly like a hurricane plane? Half joking here but kinda serious

Last time we had a first female going into the air was also in Florida and the Challenger exploded. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen again.

Will have to be reinspected before closing if in a storm affected area.

IIRC they had some crashes or near crashes during and after WWII when they were flying piston aircraft. Not since they started using turboprops, which have a lot more power.

they use military C130s I believe for the in-storm missions
those things are a beast and can take a pounding
plus with on-board meteorologists and all the weather equipment I'm sure they know where to go to stay as safe as possible

Dorian will likely be 95 mph+ winds at the next advisory.
