but I gotta ask... a number of pages ago the TD Hurricane Experts talked about a big ridge building in and if any storms coming off the African coast get under it... that could be something for every part of coastal US to look at... including the Gulf coast

so my question comes with the wave the NHC has tagged right off the African coast now... giving it a 50% chance of development over the next 5 days

It’s just too early to tell.

Anything can happen.

It’s still a good ways out and there’s a lot that can determine what it will do

We just have to wait and see.

Don’t let your guard down.

Just hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

I hope the NC coast didn't get lulled to sleep by the Cat 5 to Cat 2 weakening. Dorian means business again.

Has anyone mentioned this is going to slam into Nova Scotia? Our boy Frankie will get to do live field reports.

Do they even have Hurricane Preparedness there?

October 29, 1963: Hurricane Ginny struck Nova Scotia as a strong Category 2 hurricane, the strongest to ever make landfall in Canada. Ginny was unusual in the fact that the hurricane produced snow.

after Sandy lost tropical characteristics it formed up with a front and became part of a Nor'Easter

but yeah... absolutely crazy to think of a hurricane creating snow

GFS shifts a little closer to coast again. Euro and GFS are basically identical and show a landfall near Morehead City / Cape Lookout and through the outer banks.

WPC Discussion - Coastal SC Concerning Rainfall

quote:

Summary...Heavy rainfall associated with the central dense overcast of Hurricane Dorian will begin to spread inland across coastal South Carolina. As Dorian lifts slowly northward, rainfall rates will intensify, and may reach 3"/hr at times. Training of these echoes will produce rounds of very heavy rainfall, which may accumulate to 5" in some places. Flash flooding will become increasingly likely overnight.

Does anyone know where I can find previous tracks of Dorian, from Sunday, Saturday, Friday, previously from before it turned north?
