Go away, yankee.
There are going to be lots of dead people you can ridicule with your yankee friends. Save it for them.

I won't tell you how to milk a cow.
You don't lecture me on hurricanes.
Deal?

Midwest folks prepping for a hurricane....

Then where? Assume you are impoverished, but still have a car. You found out 48 hours before the storm arrived. How do you evacuate from Marsh Harbor?
That's a great question Jenn. It is actually kind of sad seeing all of these people in this thread arguing about what the people on the island are capable of, what they should have done, etc. The truth is, there are billions of dollars in the Bahamas but they are not community property.
So the real answer is, nobody here speaking in absolutes knows what resources any of the Bahamians had available when their decision was made to ride out the largest hurricane to ever hit there, with little protection.
If you want to see an example of their wealth, go to Google maps and look at the earth view, 360 degree shot from the light house at the northern tip of Elbow Cay. All you see is money.

I’m going to rant for a min, so I apologize in advance.
What kind of jackass posts shite about Bahamian people evacuating? How many people in the Bahamas have the means to leave?
As for people in the states staying or leaving, St Aug is right. How old were some of you people for Katrina? Plenty of people left and had no job to come home to. It was months before some semblance of normalcy returned. What do you do when you’re paying $60-$100/ night for a hotel room and suddenly you don’t have any income? Or perhaps a home to go back to? How many people have $10k sitting ready to drop on living in a hotel for a few months?
Really folks, grow the frick up. Nothing about a storm or flood is fun for adults with responsibility. Sometimes this board is such a pain in the arse it makes me wonder how many of you are just trolls, or kids that have never though past the end of their noses about what the frick responsibility is.

it has wobbled to the northeast.
Have to agree on that assessment.

I guess but I'm guessing supply boats will be sent with relief items??
Seacor has RORO ferries that are stationed in Ft Lauderdale and few other locations along the Southern Florida coast.
The problem is going to be the docks and channels are going to be destroyed and full of debris. It’s going to be a challenge getting to and from Freeport for a while.

Very well said. Can't believe you've gotten a downvote, but apparently someone doesn't like to hear the truth.

Looks like the eye had shrunk a little as it has wobbled to the northeast. Even with the weakening, it's still an impressive looking storm.
Not much movement really, just the eye contracting.
Also, it looks better in terms of strength than Dorian has all day. Doubt it will translate to significant strengthening from here.
Finally, can't the people in the Bahamas swim? Why didn't they just swim to Miami through the hurricane?

Texas is not midwest.
And I don't know how to milk a cow.
Tried once. Failed spectacularly.
They have machines for that anywhey.

Well said.
I was in Freeport a few years ago and was talking to the locals about hurricanes. They said not many have the means to evacuate the island. When you are on an island where else are you going to go if you can’t afford to leave. They said they hunker down, say their prayers and hope for the best.

Wow you really are not the brightest crayon in the box.
Anyone with half a brain would have clearly realized the picture is just an example and details of the actual location not relevant.

The US Navy has a hospital ship en route.

I agree with everything you said. Except
What does that have to do with staying vs leaving? Are you saying choose possible death and remain at home over leaving and sorting out the details of life after?

Well, it is kinda relevant if you are trying to display midwestern idiocy.

Exactly what I was thinking.
Stay or leave, the job/income is gone in the above scenario.
At least if you leave you're still alive.
