Louisiana's Department of Health is investigating a potential mass food poisoning outbreak in Caldwell Parish.
Local and state authorities are also trying to determine if the death of a 56-year-old man, Duane Reitzell, was caused by food poison.
Crazy, one dead and hundreds sick. They think it's food poison from jambalaya from a fund raiser.

Can you imagine being the person that cooked the jambalaya? Knowing that you inadvertently killed a person and made hundreds sick? That's got to weigh heavy on you.
Anybody on the OT one of the ones that got sick?

CALDWELL PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Hospital officials in Columbia say they're working with the Louisiana Office of Public Health to figure out what might have caused the death of one person and what caused nearly 200 people to get sick around the same time.
Caldwell Parish Sheriff Clay Bennet, who believes he also has the virus, said hundreds of people started getting sick around the same time Monday evening.
Sherry Varner has been going to the Citizens Medical Center to check on her daughter for the past two days.
"She felt like she had been hit by a train is what she said," Varner said.
The Louisiana Department of Health is still trying to figure out where this virus came from. Though, many people in Columbia believe it comes from a pot of jambalaya they ate this week at a softball event.
"She’s pretty sure she knows where it came from," Varner said.
Bennett also said his office is investigating the death of a man who complained he had the same symptoms. It hasn’t been confirmed if any of this is connected, but LDH is working to figure that out.
The Department of Health said it doesn’t know if this virus is contagious, so they are encouraging everyone to stay home and make sure you’re washing your hands.

I don't see that they do but I'd imagine vomiting/diarrhea and all the other fun stuff that comes along with food poisoning.

Back in the day, pretty much my entire school got sick from a fund raiser. Got so bad, a car dealership got sick as well and had to shut their doors until they had enough staff to run again. I remember being interviewed by the heath department, and going to the hospital, but not much more than that. They later found out that the grocery store messed up by giving the cook bad ground meat. Dont remember what store it was, but I know they got a huge lawsuit against them. Its gonna be bad news for whoever is at fault with this one.

I'd start by not eating jambalaya cooked by someone north of ville platte

Feds need to quarantine the entire Parish. It'll be good practice for when the new world govt implements UN Order No. 675-A.

They just had an episode of Designated Survivor where a whole town got a virus...oddly enough it was in Louisiana.

was asking because i had a kid up in Natchitoches get sick really quickly this weekend like they are saying "hit by a train". Went from fine to too weak to stand in a matter of hours. ER said "virus".

This is why I never eat at jamb contests, BBQ cook-off, or church pot luck. No safety standard one soever.
