Anyone that compares the love of a dog to the love of a child is so fricked up that they can’t be rehabilitated.

One reason is "cute" animals generally have facial characteristics similar to human babies.

Put your wife, kids, and your dog in the trunk of the car and take a ride down a bumpy road on a hot day.

When you get back, open the trunk and see which of them loves you the most.

If you could just drop a kid off anytime like you can with pets, then people absolutely would for ruining some furniture with piss shite. Hell you got moms that be dumping they babies off in the dumpsters or even killing them as newborns. So again yeah that such a stupid take of yours.

No, just absolute weirdos in western societies. Have you seen what the rest of the world does to dogs?

Dogs are pretty cool animals if you treat them nicely, take them for a walk and pet them every once in a while. I don't care what they do with them in China.

A dog requires care and gives love in return. Makes sense to me

I can honestly see this for empty nesters. My little buddy is now my kid. Of course my son will always take priority, but he lives 12 hours away.

So yeah. I can see it.

I am fascinated by people that know something when they have no idea what the source material is.

The article show that we have similar emotional responses to our dogs and the human amygdala and hippocampus light up in similar ways when people are shown pictures fo their dog and their children. It doesn't say the emotions are as deep or as string but that they are similar feelings. This makes perfect sense because we have been breeding dogs for tens of thousands of years to connect with us and for us to be able to connect to them. Plus, in both cases you are fully responsible for their health and welfare. Despite one being chattel and the other being progeny, it is perfectly logical that the emotional attachment is similar in many ways, despite the depth not being similar.

I clicked the article link but they wanted my email in order for me to view the article and there was no "reader option" to bypass it.

I love my pups and would protect them like I would my children but comparing them to my actual children is just too much.

Only people who don’t have actual children see their dogs as children.

I see mine as a completely unnecessary extra thing to pay for. And I love my dog.

When you want to view a paywalled article, as long as you can get a clean address (sometimes sites will quickly change the address the "ad") just copy and paste it on this page:

Ooohh.. thank you! I might go try again with reading it. Seriously, much appreciated!

edit.. cool beans, you already did it up to click on, awesome!

The article was cool... I especially liked the comparison of dogs and toddlers- pretty spot on. One of her subjects was just a tad too much in puppy love for a woman with children, though.
