NEW ORLEANS — The 7-year wait will soon be over! Hubig's pies will be returning to the metro New Orleans area, Governor John Bel Edwards and Hubig's Pies owner Andrew Ramsey announced Thursday.

The company plans to launch the return of its fruit pies, which will be manufactured at a plant in Jefferson Parish.

The iconic New Orleans company stopped producing its treats after a devastating fire in 2012 destroyed its plant in New Orleans.

"No one embraces traditions and good food like the people of Louisiana," Gov. Edwards said. "Hubig's pies are as unique to Louisiana as Mardi Gras, and we welcome the return of this iconic local brand with open arms and empty stomachs. We're happy to help support Hubig's Pies as it revives a great culinary tradition and creates new career opportunities in Louisiana's rich culinary heritage."

Hubig's plans to begin production in 2020 with such classic flavors as apple, cherry, lemon, peach and chocolate.

I've heard this before.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Honestly...this was my staple nearly every morning my senior year of high school in the late 80's. Stop at Time Saver, grab a Hubig pie (or 2), an ice cold milk, and head to first hour...

At nearly 50 though, I think I might have to pass on these now though...

My cousin married into the family that owns it.

After Katrina we had 3 Hubig Pie vans in front of our house in Baton Rouge and our kitchen was overflowing with them

Really happy it's coming back. They've had a tough go at it the last decade.

Louisiana cared about john bel Edwards being there for the press conference to announce jimbo fisher as LSU's head coach.

But Jon bel Edwards decided that jimbo fisher as lsu's coach is not what Louisiana needed.

Can't tell if this is sarcasm, but while they were out of business, they had a lot of shite going on that prevented them from coming back sooner.

I ate a Lemon Pie every morning on the way to school after swim practice. Gave me the little pick up I needed. You are right, I'm almost 60 and could not do it today. Glad they are back, and I'll have one for the good old days.

just pointing out the obvious that the pies have been gone from our lives for a long, dreary 7 years... no matter whose fault it is that they couldn't get back up sooner
